Kinda ugly, but it works. I think if someone was going to create a design like that, they could probably try to make a thumbhole stock style that would probably be a little easier on the eyes.

Thumbholes stocks are not legal on a CA AR in that configuration...neither are pistol grips. Hence the odd stock.

A shooting buddy just had to have one and when we took it to the range, we tried it out. Not a natural grip but it works & it's a legal way to complete your CA build w/ detachable mags.

There are also other alternatives.

MonsterMan Grip - looks like a pistol grip angled back and molded into an A2 stock.

and the SRB Tactical (Spring Retaining Bracket) to retain the selector switch detent and spring, but the SRB does not provide any "gripping" surface. It is just a small aluminum machined cover that screws into the female grip threads.

Wow, I was wondering when someone would re-invent it. It kinda looks like it melted down, leaving the buffer tube in place. What's so stupid is if that little space between the BT and the stock were touching, it would be banned. Ignorance is bliss.

It's also much better than that worthless, break open, welded magwell, joke of a rifle available now.

The tragic thing is that we could _all_ be stuck with this stock (or worse) if we don't keep up the outreach to the non-EBR crowd.

I don't particularly expect the _current_ AWB2 proposal to go through (HR 1022), but it's still good principle to smack it down before it can even get out of committee.

I have a stripped receiver and I was gonna build it up using this stock, but the CA DOJ hasnt given a clear opinion on it. Some think it could possibly be construed as a thumbhole stock.

The Blackstar rifle is the one I'm waiting on now. There should be no question as to its legality.

You CAN have a pistol grip on an AR here in cali. To do this and stay compliant with the law however, you much have a fixed magazine. There are specific parts such as the bullet button and the prince50 mag lock that allow you to have a traditional AR with 10 round mags. The only difference is that you have to have a tool to take the mag off. In the case of the bulletbutton all it requires is that you take a tip of the bullet to push in what is in reality a very tiny mag release. While Cali DOJ has not officially given the ok to the bullet button (they have on the prince50) it does completely track the language of the applicable statutes. Plus if you ever travel out of state it will only take you 5 minutes to return your AR to stock.

There is a spring and plunger arrangement which travels down into the stock a la semi shotguns. The Blackstar takes a Remington 1100 stock and any aftermarket 1100 stock will fit it, just avoid the pistol grip ones.
