Coroner’s officials named the man who was shot to death by Bakersfield police officers on Sunday night.

Erson Alexander Welchen, 22, of Palmdale was shot as he tried to run away from officers during a car stop, coroner’s officials said.
The 10:26 p.m. shooting occurred near the intersection of Panama Lane and Highway 99.

Police stopped the car there because they suspected its occupants had committed a robbery of Rite Aid down the street, according to the department.

When Welchen got out of the car and tried to run, three officers shot at him, hitting him twice, according to the department.

Welchen died at Kern Medical Center at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, according to coroner’s officials. His identity was confirmed by fingerprints.

Three other people were arrested on suspicion of robbery during the fatal traffic stop, according to police.

The three officers involved in the shooting — Sgt. Jon Scott, Senior Officer Bryon Sandrini and Officer Sherman Rooks — were placed on administrative leave pending the ruling of a shooting review board.

Just in case you didn't know, if you are a gangbanger from Los Angeles (or Palmdale), don't come to Kern County to rob anything. The Bakersfield Police will shoot you and most likely you will die. It amazes me that the thugs from Los Angeles don't read the paper more. Everytime they come hit up our "little" town, they get shot. Armed, unarmed, running away, running towards...it doesn't matter. Don't rob stores or people in Kern County or you will die.

Don't rob stores or people in Kern County or you will die.

A more accurate statement, based on the article, would be "dont be suspected by the police of robbing stores or people in Kern County or you will die."
