I spent $130 yesterday on .308 bullets and now today, they have S&B small pistol primers for $20.99/brick and blowout prices on Hodgdon powder.

I've just spent $260 in 2 days.....lol!

Its too good to pass up!

I have a couple of Cabela's VISA cards for my office employees. While we try not to buy things we don't need, the points still build quickly and you can guess who gets to spend them.

I've contemplated switching my expense card to a Cabela's Visa. AMEX rewards program is pretty pathetic. I know what will happen if I switch to a Cabela's card. Which is why I haven't made the change.

When we retired we returned the Amex cards after over 20 years. Even for the last few years before retiring we seldom if ever used the AMEX Gold and we were paying to have them. Went Cabela's Black Signature and never looked back. We use the Cabela's card for everything. Then around Christmas we spend the bucks we earned on holiday stuff. Especially love the holiday food like the bacon samplers we send friends. :)

Yeah, it was just a few months ago they were running out the S&B Primers at sale prices. I am shooting primers I had from 25 years ago. It's not like primers go bad anytime soon so stock up and you will never get short on components. The same is true for well stored powder and obviously bullets have a shelf life of around a thousand years.

Discipline dragon discipline..
My cabelas visa gets quite a workout, but only for needed stuff.. yea right..

They are opening a new store here next Wednesday . I hope they have some good deals on the grand opening day , I plan on being there .

I must be missing something here and maybe I should look into the card again. The Cabela's around here is 5%-10% high on everything. The last time I looked at the credit card it didn't offer anything close to offsetting that.
One nice thing about this Cabela's is you can always get a parking space close to the door:)

The advantage on powder and primer sales is no shipping (online is usually free over $99) and no hazmat.

This isn't stuff that I absolutely "need", but I'll be damned if I'm going to struggle through another prolonged "shortage".

I'm being prudent and stocking up at cheap prices.

I have very little discipline ;)

I should switch. It's not my money but I get all the points, along w/ frequent flyer miles and hotel points. I could rack up a whole lot of Cabela's points for free. At least w/ the AMEX I can buy gift cards and buy directly from Amazon. But of course the points are worth less at Amazon.

Wife uses ours for everything from gasoline to the grocery store. Here in NE Ohio there is Giant Eagle super market chain which also has Get Go gas stations. You get gas perks as in for each $50 spent you get $0.10 off on a gallon of gas and on some things like gift cards you get $0.20 per gallon. When we plan dinner out we buy the gift cards using the Cabela's card. Not that we use much gasoline since retiring. We also never carry a balance so the card gets used quite a bit, not just at Cabela's.

Yessir. Never ever carrying a balance on one is the key.
If one carried a balance, no retailer could offer sales good enough to justify spending on it.

edit to add: The vast majority of my cabelas visa purchases have nothing to do with cabelas, other than getting hundreds of dollars a year in "free" stuff at the expence of those that do carry a balance.

Cabelas tends to be on the high side on some things.
I always try to catch the sales.
Their HAZMAT is only $20 5-10 less than some.
Shipping free over a $100 or only $5 quite often.
Interest rate on the card isn't great but I pay it off every month so it does not matter to me.
Good people to do business with as well, they believe in customer service.

Cabela's gets an F in my book. You want to look at a gun, take a number, just like your deli counter at the supermarket. Peruse the aisle, along with the rest of the herd. Crowded and above average to high prices. Been there...done that. No thank you!

I have to agree with orpington.

A potential customer wants to spent $1,000 bucks? Take a number and we'll get to you. Right.

I'd rather take a number and be served in an orderly manner then stand around while clerks ignore me. I've walked out of quite a few shops because of this. W/ the volume Cabela's does there is no better way to serve their customers. I also don't have to wait if I go on a Tuesday afternoon. The wait time for paperwork processing annoys me more than anything else, including their prices.

i dont like going into a cabelas but i recently dropped $600+ on powder and primers online. good price on S&B primers and good price on Hodgdons powders, at least some of the powders.

i really didnt want to go back to titegroup, but for 125 bucks for 8 lbs and its low charge weight how can you argue?

the $20 dollar hazmat was covered pretty quick.

The reloading sale on-line right now is fantastic, they get products to my door fast....like 3 days. I've been very pleased with the on-line service of Cabela's.

You don't mention a specific Cabela's? I can see where the quality of service could vary store to store. My experience is primarily in the Columbus, Ohio store where long guns are spread from behind the counter to the open areas and everything in the gun library is behind glass. I have never had to wait for service and the service in Columbus, Ohio has always been good for me. Finally, I have no problem with take a number like a deli section in a super market. If I get there ahead of you shouldn't I be served before you?

On another good note Cabela's gives veterans a 5% discount on top of any other sale priced which on a $1,500 gun is $75.00 on top of any already applied discounts.

Back on topic, the S&B primers are a real good deal right now. Figure a about a C Note gets you about 5,000 primers.
