Looks like Cabela's went up $20.00 overnight on most of their pistols. I have been looking at the 1858 for $199.00. Today it's $219.00. I guess you snooze-you loose.

Yeah, I just noticed that myself! I lucked out for a change and just received my new 1860 Army last week for $199.99, Today it's $219.99.

I guess we'll never see the $199.99 anymore. I had a couple more on my list to. What you going to do. Could look at it this way, you bought what you bought while you could get it at that price. I lucked up on three while I could at that price. Was hopping to get the .36 cal 1858 Police, to go with my little .36 cal 51 Colt. Everything else is .44 cal. in my little group. These .36s are just plain fun to shoot. After you shoot the big powder burners for a while, ya kind uh like using the smaller .36s just to have fun, and not brake the bank. They make a grate snake revolver when you sittin on the river bank fishing. Have fun fellows, while you can. Be safe, and happy shooting. OK that's all folks. Dell :)

Here in Canada the repro's cost about $450.00 after tax also they are considered a restricted firearm and we can't shoot them anywhere except an approved range. I would love to take mine camping but no can do! Maybe I will move down south.:D

You mean, with all of the unpopulated territory you guys have up north of the border, you're only allowed to shoot at an "approved range"?

You all need to do a better job at election time!

In store they were$ 269 this winter, but$ 199 online.... needless to say i ordered mine. I missed out on a Uberti Walker in the bargen cave. $325.......

Well, Cabela's is getting higher. Everybody is I guess, and it could get worse I reckon. If you're a collector or something I know it must be hard on a lot of folks. But if someone is just looking for a couple of good pieces and will spend a little money and fix them up and keep plenty of spare parts and all they can still make it alright. A good piece that is properly tweaked and peaked and tuned and all will pretty well give someone a lifetime of shooting pleasure especially if it's just used as a working gun (self defense and hunting with just a little wasteful pleasure shooting thrown in every now and then) instead of..well, never mind. None of my business and I have no right to say what I almost typed. But anyway, things are going up, no question....

I know!
I almost fell over when I re-checked the prices, less than a week after my little '62 Police arrived! I was considering getting another gun.
I think they should have posted a warning somewhere that prices might change without warning, something wrong here!
I bet you could hold them to the printed catalog price since I couldn't find any sort of notice on the page where the '62 Police is...
You can't say a Catalog is good for a certain length of time then not honor the prices!

Someone on here said 3 or 4 years ago that lot's of times Cabela's has various firearms (other stuff to) that is slightly damaged or had been sent back to them for one reason or the other and they sell it (them) at a large discount, but that you actually need to ask them about it....PS..I remember that the person who made that post said that he (she) worked for Cabela's or used to work for them; one or the other, can't remember for sure....

Well I guess that a "lowered sale price" does have it's time limit. It was nice while it lasted huh? Might just be another one in a while, ya just never know.

Wade

I found it!
On the back cover of the "Shooting Catalog 2011" it clearly states (In Black and White!) that Prices are effective through June 30, 2011.
So if you use the Catalog numbers to order, the prices MUST apply!
What do you have to loose for trying, $20.00?

Monitizing the debt = devaluing currency = inflation

Ding, ding, ding....we have a winner!

Monetizing the debt is best known as the guberment cranking up the printing presses to make more greenback$. In part, one of the many ways the guberment redistributes wealth.

Some folks don't realize that in some countries the price of goods is going down not up. This is because their currency is worth more now whereas our's is worth less.

Maybe a good way to protect your wealth is to buy more Italian BP revolvers now and sell them later at a higher price. ;)

I bought one, an 1860 Army, a couple of years ago for $199.00. Then they went back up. Sales happen and then they go away. Ever shop at Sears or K-Mart? J. C. Penney's always has a sale going on on something.

If they are in the 2011 shooting catalog (I haven't looked) I'll bet they will honor that price for the time frame stated on the catalog. You find different prices on their website than shown in their catalogs every once in awhile.

All it takes to find out is an 800# phone call.

Just got back from the Cabela's up in Hamburg, PA....

You guys are lucky! Your prices are still lower, even with the $20 spike, and that's not including gas prices to get up there.... I live in the northern central part of the Peoples' Republic of Maryland...

It does suck though... life is pricey.

Don't go by the prices ya see on the website...call them! I wanted to buy my first Remington last year and had some questions so I called and while talking to one of their tech guys I mentioned the price...he looked it up and told me it was actually about $20 cheaper than what was showing on the web site!

Cabelas just came out with their credit card scheme. Buy an item over 500, get 100 off. I did and have a nice lever action .45LC!

ZVP, do you have the catalog numbers for the 1858 New Army Remington with the 5.5" barrel????

I was going to order a pair with 2 extra cylinders for cowboy action on pay day.

Cabelas isn't the only one playing the bait and switch game. I have noticed that Dixie does this too.

Last month I bought a flintlock 50 Caliber Tennessee Rifle from Dixie, for $365.00, it was the least expensive assembled Rifle they had in their catalog. As soon as my order was processed, that Rifle dropped off of their online catalog page !!! I wanted to write a review on it, and the Rifle was not to be found for love or money !!!

A week after that, the Tennessee short carbine 50 Caliber Flintlock magically "re-appeared" on their online catalog... Only now, the price is $436.00 !!!

Interestingly enough, this was the SECOND time Dixie played this little pricing game with me like this. The month prior to that, I purchased a Remington 1858 44Cal New Army with the starter kit for $199.00... and Shore 'Nuff, a week after I received it, the price went up on those to $267.00 !!!

Hmmmm..... Me wonders how much THEY actually pay for these things sometimes... like, are they buying these low end Pietta Pistols, in LOTS for like $69.99 a piece or what???

Just a wonderin....

Sincerely,

The illegal practice of 'bait and switch' involves the seller substituting an item of inferior quality in place of the item advertised and paid for. Neither Cabela's nor Dixie engages in that practice and you owe them an apology. The practice of raising prices is neither illegal nor unethical and every wholesaler, retailer, distributor and manufacturer faces, and succumbs to, that requirement at some point.

Cabela's has done nothing wrong here. You got the proper item for the advertised price and have, as far as I can tell from your description, not been harmed in any way, so I fail to understand what your complaint against Cabela's is.

But the good news is ...

THREE days left on 5-dollar shipping at Cabelas which, in the short term anyway, takes a bit of the sting out of the price increase.

Glad I bought my Spiller and Burr a few weeks ago!
