Does anyone know how hard would it be for a security guard in Sonoma county to get a CCW?
You probably wouldn't get one, go one county north and you will (mendicino)

The good news is no one knows the CA security law for guards "open" carry
many of SF security carry while in uniform and often conceal while open carry...I used to carry an sp101 and on a black pants, shirt it was virtually concealed and I would wear a jacket and it dissappeared (but I was still in uniform.
technically you are not allowed to conceal but there is only one inspector for the entire state and cops generally are unaware of the law.
A high ranking SFPD officer saw me running for the bus and saw my Glock
and stopped me and said I wasn't allowed to carry that way, I said I had to per state law but I would gladly carry concealed if he could get me a ccw:evil:
he said "no but I will give you a ride to work"

County-by-County 'Package'

While Los Angeles County is a No-No, you'll find San Diego County as well as Orange County, San Bernardino and Riverside Counties to be fairly decent. The key seems to be the 'package' you organize for them.

Couple of things to be conscious of:

# 1 - You want to come across in your application (which is being read by someone who doesn't know you personally) as very mature, level-headed and possessing sound judgment.

# 2 - Reference Letters in support of your CCW application can be helpful, particularly if they are from individuals whose title or position carry credibility, i.e. law enforcement, judicial officers, ministers, counselors, teachers, etc.

# 3 - Documentation in support of your application is a good thing, i.e. copies of your NRA Instructor credentials, IDPA Membership card, USPSA Membership card, listings of the Matches you compete in, Copies of any syllabus from Firearms Trainining facilities, etc.

# 4 - Most Important is your "Justification" comments. Avoid simply saying 'Personal Protection'. Try to be more original, i.e. "I'm in the such-and-such business, and I often must travel alone to unfamiliar neighborhoods and must carry cash deposits for my business. In addition, I participate regularly in competitive shooting events and need to be armed to secure my rifles and shotguns from theft..." "There have been a number of violent crimes in the vicinity of my neighborhood and business, and if necessary, I wish to be able to defend myself and my family while awaiting the arrival of law enforcement..." You get the idea.

# 5 - If the application asks for 2 or 3 letters of recommendation, get AT LEAST that. Maybe more. 4 or 6 letters might be better if you can get them.

Bottom Line: "Justification comments" are critical as is any documentation which shows you to be a trustworthy, law-abiding person of maturity and sound judgment.

If you are denied for any reason, APPEAL IT. If you lose the appeal, ask for the reasoning behind the decision. Use a lawyer. File suit if you have to. But if you are on good solid ground, then seek your CCW through the legal system.

I just moved here and the general consensus is that unless I have a "really really good reason. (See have money and willing to buy one from Sherriff Stanton) Don't even bother. I Don't know what the next sherriff will be like (THink lastusky is running against him, but I'm not sure of his stance on 2A, he doen't say anything about it, so probably worse.) However there was just a lawsuit won by the owner of the first site, that offers hope.

His advice is to go ahead and try but go in prepared to filed a suit.

Hope this helps some..

A permit issued in any city or county is valid statewide but any police officer can revoke the permit on the spot for any reason or no reason. So if that SF cop spots your gun he will likely tell you to go lock it in your car and if you refuse he yanks your permit. Now you have to stow it or be arrested for packing W/O a permit.

Would love to see some law to back this up. The CCW is issued by a Sheriff or Police Chief and backed by the state of California. You're telling me a street cop can trump their ruling simply because he wants to? I don't think a LE can pull your CCW piece unless you were doing something stupid.

They may try to take your gun and force you to come after it, but that is an open invitation for you to chew their commanding officers ear off for confiscation of legal property. And we all know management loves to hear complaints and threats of possible lawsuits.

yes that is true

to carry as a security guard
You need to get a Guard Card & a Gun Card.

Even though you have the Guard Card & a Gun Card, I bet Sonoma
wouldn't let you ccw.
Mendicino Sherrif ran on a pro ccw ticket and won
