Can a non-resident take a states online Hunter Education Course?

In short I've missed PAs courses till 2012 and since I live in the Eastern Part of the state it's often hard to find any located within one hour or even two hours of my home. They also often fill up extremely quickly. Now if I'm not mistaken (and I will check this out in further detail), PA waives the HTE requirement if you've taken the required course in any other state. The most important queation is can non-residents take these courses? If so does anyone know of a state that allows the entire process to be done only online? If not does Delaware seem like the best option, even with a field day requirement? I have my first child coming in a few weeks, so if I could do the process mostly online it would be a huge plus as PA tends to spread them over two days and during the week, which due to my job, is kind of hard to work around.

If you're new to hunting, I would stick with information pertaining to your home state. As you may already know, laws will differ from state to state, and can make it confusing for the new hunter. Initially, familiarizing yourself with your states hunting laws is essential and will take time and patience. Once you've got it, keeping up with changes from one year to the next is relatively simple. In Ohio you can get all the study materials on-line, but you do have to show up to take the test (about an hour). Check to see if that's an option in PA.

I am new and I concur it would be the best idea. I discovered something call HTE independent study which seems to be what Ohio has. Only problem is no classes for 2012 seem to be scheduled yet. I'm just concerned that they will only be nowhere near where I live in Bucks or fill up in five minutes. LOL

Apply early and you shouldn't have any problem. Your State Wildlife Agency makes every effort to make these courses available. Remember, hunters/sportsmen are the main source of revenue for any states Wildlife Department. They want you to take the course and get involved. For members employed by the Wildlife Department, an abundance of hunters/anglers means job security. Don't be afraid to contact them by e-mail or phone to ask specific questions. Many if not most Rangers are themselves hunters, and in most cases are eager to help.
