Howdy all. I recently bought a Mossberg model 500 12 ga. that appears to the standard, run of the mill pump gun. It started life with a 28" mod. choke non-vent rib barrel and has a birch wood stock and fore-end with pressed in checkering. All in all seems like a pretty nice shotgun. But I've never heard of an "AG" model designation - stamped on the bottom of the receiver just like all 500s. I expect this one is a little older. Can anyone give me a little more info. on what I have and how to find out when it was made? Thanks for your help, Buckshot Bill

Just looked at my Mossberg 500, an it says AG as well......it must be pretty common, but couldn't tell you anymore what it stands for. I bought mine new back around 1985 with slug barrel an vent rib....try contacting Mossberg with the serial numbers, they can probably find out what year it was made....good luck.

Thanks, Chalk. I was thinking that's what I would probably have to do. Had heard of mostly 500A's and didn't know if I had something unusual or not. Figured probably not. Much obliged, Buckshot Bill
