I like to know what kind of revolver can be changed the barrel? I have a S & W model 67 with normal barrel . If I want to change it to about 2 inch barrel in order to carry. Can I do it by myself or only Smith can do that? How much will be cost the barrel?

Thanks!

pretty sure Brownells or some such supplier sells m67 barrels and you could send it to C&S or to a local gunsmith and they could rebarrel it.

Have a smith do it, it needs a special wrench to hold the frame and then a fixture to turn the barrel.

It will cost between $75 and $200 to do it and the barrel price is a crap shoot.

Trimming the barrel would also cost about $250.

An alternative would be to find a 2" Model 64 (which is the same gun but with fixed sights). It might cost a little more than shortening the 67, or it might cost a little less.

The advantage is that you'd have two guns instead of one, and you'd be able to get your money back out of them. You'll never get your money back on customizing the 67.

Going from "normal" - what, four inch? - to two inch will also require changing the extractor rod and center pin. Not hard, but more parts to buy and labor to pay for.

If you want a short barrel but still want to keep the adjustable sights, look for a used two-inch Model 15 (.38 Spl. blued only), or a 2.5-inch Model 19 or 66 (blued/stainless respectively, .357 Mag.). The snubby version of the magnum also has a round butt, easier to conceal than the square butt. I would sooner do that than change barrels, ejector rods and other parts.
