Someone posted a thread about shipping within the same state and I misread it and thought he was asking if he had to use a "common carrier" to ship interstate ... so that put the question in my mind.
Let's say I were to sell a gun to someone in another state, could I drive the gun to an FFL dealer in the buyer's state and have the transfer done to the buyer then? Sure its cheaper to ship via UPS or FedEx, but if one was planning on driving to that state anyway, it might be a cost savings.
Also, if you meet the buyer at the FFL the buyer has an opportunity to inspect first and then buy ... I'm thinking as a buyer I'd much rather meet the seller FTF and look at the gun before plunking down my cash.
Or, if I went to a shooting event in another state and one of the other guys at the shoot (who is a local) decided he just HAD to have one of my guns, we could do the deal at an FFL there instead of me driving home and shipping.
I've looked on the ATF's site but didn't find a direct answer to this one.
