So I'm looking to buy or build another upper for my lr308, because I need a lightweight in the brush gun also. If I build an upper and use the bolt that I already have, I'll save a significant amount of money. Is it ok to just switch the bolt back and forth between the two uppers? Thanks

Strongly not recommended. Each rifle's barrel extension is likely to have minor surface irregularities that wear-in with the bolt, and after wear-in the wear of both pieces slows. Those irregularities won't match between the two and swapping a bolt between them is likely to accelerate wear on the bolt and both barrel extensions, and ultimately could cause headspace problems.

It's worth it to spend the extra $100 or whatever for separate bolts.

The bolt carrier can be swapped back and forth with little or no issue if you want. Personally I would just have each upper complete on its own, though.

yeah, that's what thought. Thank you

I think a complete bcg for the lr308 is gonna run about $300 :( Unless someone can point me to a better source.

Be sure to price out a complete separate DPMS .308 rifle before you build one. It's hard to impossible to build a basic setup for less than they sell the complete rifles for.

yeah, I can buy the upper I'm looking at for $720 to my door. To build the upper with some minor changes is gonna cost $800 not including shipping from the various sites I'd be buying from. Then I have to figure out how much my time is worth.... I think I'll just buy one already put together. Thanks guys.
