The question is specific. Not interested in other red dots. Those who've tried one on an AK-47 (or '74), how well have they held up after several 100 or 1000 rds?

Thanks

M

I've shot with them on G3's, Bolt action 308's, RPK's and shotguns.

Was so impressed one was heavily in contention to go on a .357 revolver, but I picked a Millet unit instead.

I still may own one yet!

After a few matches, it seemed everyone that showed up with an optic clad AK at my previous range was running the Bushnell. It worked well and the price was right. I ordered an optic mount for my VZ.58 last night and this was the 1st sight that came to mind due to the favorable impression by some experienced shooters.

I've had one on an Ultimak front rail on my Saiga AK for a couple of years now and it has held up nicely. Since my initial sight in, it has held zero even after removing it when doing the proper conversion on the Saiga.

I use one on an AR. No complaints. I would estimate the hard part is finding a stable mount on the AK.

I have a WASR AK with the side mount and TRS25. It has been trouble free for several hundred rounds now. One of the best red dots I have used. It is well worth the money.

I wouldn't hesitate to put it any of my AR's or other rifles.

Thanks for all the responses. I thought about on mounting one on my 7.62x39 Saiga. Looks like they hold up pretty well.

It's the bolt slammimg back and forth that tend to trash scopes. Ask Mini-14 and Mini-30 owners. For my Mini-30, I only mount Burris scopes that are air rifle rated or a big Aimpoint.

It only stands to reason an AK might be a little hard on optics as well. That's why I wanted some end-user input. I've never had any problems with the AR-15.

Had one in my tactical 12 guage for shooting slugs work like a champ 6 years now

Russians put the mount on the side of the receiver the most stable on the rifle. If you see an AK fired in slow motion and watch how the top of the gun whips you would not waste money on the expensive rail mounts

I've never had a semi auto break one of my scopes, but then again, I don't buy cheapo POS scopes either...

Care to name the semiautos, scopes, along with some idea of round counts? Many "quality" optics are now made in China, including Aimpoint clones and Leupold models. Had one Leupold break crosshairs many years ago (FAL mounted). Not that uncommon really. That is why manufacturers offer warranties. But then I am only interested in the durability of Bushnell TRS-25 red dot mounted on a Kalashnikov and some idea of how many rounds they have withstood.

Good luck

I had mine mounted on an 870 12gauge which held up to the recoil of about 1000 mixed rounds just fine. Now it sits on a 10/22 so I don't worry about recoil much anymore. There were only a few beefs I had with the TRS-25 but they are minor and I'm pretty picky.

1) There is a very slight "bump" on the side wall when looking through the optic. The field of vision is not perfectly round.
2) Hard to get flip caps for. I hate bikini style rubber dust covers
3) The on/off/brightness adjustment knob was tough to break in. You almost have to push down and turn the knob to get it to move.

I have one mounted on a Ultimak rail, only 500 or so through it but fine so far. I don't beat the crap out of it but don't baby it either. If I was going to war I might choose a aimpoint but I can't see anything a civi doing to it would kill it, time will tell.

Off the top of my head, the semi auto's are/were one or more each Rem. 742's in 30-06, Browning BAR's in 30-06, 270 and 300 Win mag., S&W AR15, Old Ruger 44 mag., Winchester 100...

Put over well over1,000 rounds in one 742, also the BAR 300 mag. was shot a LOT. But, really don't keep round counts of my firearms...

Scopes on those guns were/are OLD Weavers and mostly older Leupolds like the 2x7's, none were china made.

I have had failures on cheapo scopes and I quit buying them some time ago.

From the positive testimonial evidence gathered here, the "cheapo" TRS-25 red dot optic (topic of this thread) seems well up to the task on an AK.

Thank you all for your responses.

Not only does the TRS25 stand up to my 5.45 Saigas recoil, but the small size of the dot is a great aid to accuracy, and the overall small size of the scope fits the AK very well.
