I bought a mossberg 930SPX today at the gunshow, and put 16 shells through it after getting it home. (Would've shot more, but it's been incredibly crappy weather here). From everything I've heard about semi-auto shotguns, I thought it would kick less than it did. I think it kicks every bit as hard as my 590 though, even though they both feel like they would weigh the same if I emptied the shell holder on my 590. I imagine the recoil of a shotgun would make it more difficult to control than an AK/AR/etc, and my 930 only holds 8 rounds, but is it possible to bump fire this?

On another note, I'm not sure how much I like the 930. It shoots and handles good, but this gun feels really, really cheap. Mine has some funky Italian-made sights on it too. I guess those are alright, but I'd be just as happy with a bead. I wasn't impressed with the price either. It seems like they were $450-$500 before the election, but I paid $599 for mine today. It's not really what was I hoping to buy today, and I certainly didn't need another shotgun, but I didn't find any of the other goodies on my list, and this was there and in my price range, so now I need to find it a home in the safe.

I think you'll grow to like your 930. I had the same sentiment when i first bought my field/deer combo. It just seemed like i would be better off with a simple mossy 500 but i grew to like it quite a bit. I cant seem to find any bad things about them on the internet, and my handles and performs quite well.

The SPX's were lower priced, but they had gone up in price before the election. As soon as people started doing reviews on what a bargain they were, Mossberg had enough confidence that they didn't have to discount the price on it.

I'm not sure I'd call LPA sights 'funky' they're pretty well regarded from what I've heard.

Try some reduced recoil loads in the 930. If you can get hold of some Federal LE132-00 buckshot I think you'll be favorably impressed.

You can bump fire a Beretta Over/Under, too. You usually call that "oops" but it's the same thing.:D

What does LPA stand for?

There's nothing wrong with the sights, it's just the first time I've had anything other than a bead on a shotgun, so it'll take some getting used to.

I don't ever plan on buying reduced recoil loads for anything, unless I was to maybe get another PGO and use it for HD or something. I just expected it to have considerably less than recoil than my 590, and it doesn't.

Heck, if bi-mart calls today, I have to go pay for a .458Lott I'm ordering, so if 2 3/4" birdshot was bothering me, I'll be in a world of hurt here in a few weeks.

I'd rather have a saiga for the capacity, or a SPAS-12 for the mall ninja coolness, but I think the 930 is probably going to be about the funnest gun to shoot that I own. After all, there's not a lot that will beat 8 rounds of 12ga as fast as you can pull the trigger, and with birdshot, it's one of the cheapest things to shoot too.

Because you can actually hit something with very rapid, controlled fire. Even more fun.

See one of the demo shooters from Benelli, Winchester et al. for some examples.

Bump-firing is a way to make noise.

These guys can get 10 shots off and BREAK each of 10 hand-thrown CLAYS with each shot before the clays hit the ground.
