Just got finished watching a KDKA Pittsburgh 'news' story about how anyone can buy a cap and ball revolver without a background check. An ex-con in this area used one to kill a family here and of course the politicians (and surviving family members) want these things regulated the same way as other handguns. Remember that these ARE the weapons that were available to the founding fathers at the time. Of course there was no mention of the fact that if one of the victims was armed the outcome could have been different.

Woven into that story was a piece about the AWB, how law enforcement across the country fully support getting these "killing machines" off the streets, alluding to lack of sporting purpose, etc. How they will try to pass a statewide AWB in PA in case the Federal government accidently gives us our rights back in September. Talked about how 70% of PA residents support the ban (100% support still doesn't make it RIGHT) and that crime has gone down since the 1994 AWB. Didn't mention that the number of CCW states has gone up as well since then and how THAT could have had something to do with it.

If I can find a link (it's not on their website yet... http://www.kdka.com) I'll post the story.

so they dumped the awb story with the cap an ball issue for effect maybe?sounds like a nuther bias news station.if thats not bad enough, theres a state that treats BB GUNS the same as a firearm purchase.it would be interesting to see where they get the figures that because of the awb, crime has gone down...would also be intersting to find out how they get the info that 70% want the awb.sheeple will hear this media crap and think..gee who needs a blackpowder gun anyways..sheeple believe everything they are told, especially if a scary black gun is thrown in the story.:barf:

Ummm...cap'n'ball revolvers date to 1836 (Colt Patterson) and weren't common until the 1840s. Revolvers weren't really practical until percussion caps came out, which was...damn, I want to say late 1820s but I'm not certain. Caps replaced the flintlock mechanism.

Just making sure we're technically accurate here...

I am so tired of the media grabbing headlines .. and almost always to further the anti agenda .. so much for bias free and fair reporting ..... it's history.

''Killing machines'', ''off the streets'' .... all the fave cliches ... throw in ''assault'' ... can't forget that for completeness.

Wouldn't be any story if it had been with an ''unregulated'' steak knife, hammer or simple baseball bat.

If I recall correctly, wouldn't swear to it, under both federal and PA law, cap and ball revolvers are not defined as "firearms", ergo a convicted felon or anyone who might be proscribed from purchase, ownership or posession of "firearms", could purchasse a cap and ball revolver or ANY firearm that operated with separate powder and projectiles.

As for the "new" proposal to ban assault weapons in PA, I didn't catch the broadcast mentioned, however radio news casts I heard a couple of times today made mention of State Rep. Dan Frankel, a confirmed anti gunner, offewring such legislation. I had posted material on this a while back. PA gun opwners, get on to your state reps. I did this afternoon. Piss on this spark lest it become a real fire.

The anti-gun people won't stop. They'll do whatever it takes even if they have to play a version of the "shell" game where you guess under which shell is hiding a nut.

Since when did the facts matter to these people. These clows think that if enough things are banned we will have a Utopia to live in.

If more gun owners were as motivated as the liberal gun hating liars perhaps we wouldn't be in this predicament.

Two days ago I asked a friend (and gunowner)if he would please call one of his his delegates in Annapolis about the hearing on the Maryland AWB. I was shocked by his attitude! He said that mo matter what we do its gonna happen! Too many people like that and we'll sink our own ship!

Re the experience with your friend, I'm not really all that surprised, for I have run into that sort of thing myself, and more often than I care to think about.

I'm surprised that this gentleman didn't come up with something to the effect of, "I don't need to bother, The NRA won't let THEM (whoever THEM might be) do that. You might well have heard that also.

Maybe they need to be reminded of the quote "I'm the NRA."

Re Dan Frankel's latesat effdort to ban "assault weapons", yes he is at it again, or would "still" be a better term, his proposal mentioned in earlier posts, have you contacted your state representative and or senator??

As I mentioned earlier, I submit that we need to piss on this spark before it becomes a forest fire.

"Welcome to the newest addition to Maryland - the Pennsylvania Annex"

As stated in previous posts - GET MOTIVATED NOW, and get this crap squashed before it slips past you. Contact your reps, make sure all of the gunstores, pawnshops and ranges know about this and call to voice their opposition as well.

And I'll do whatever I can to help, not that a Marylander's opinion would mean squat in the free state (for now) of Pa.

alan,

This wasn't the first time my "friend" and I had a "conversation" about gun rights if thats what you would call it! It boggles the mind to find out where someones allegiance lies!

I once considered him to be one of my best friends but now I wonder. When we were "politically ignorant" the biggest problems we had to worry about was who was gonna buy the beer or to talk about the girl we were dating(or hoped to date). Later in life it was worrying about how your divorce was going to turn out or keeping the kids inline and so on........ We were pretty tight but now I don't know.

Now I try to find out everything about losing my/our freedoms that I can so I know who to trust and vote for particularly where the 2nd Amendment is concerned.

I first mentioned to my friends and who else would listen that my state(Maryland)would try to have its own AWB when the Dem. governor( Glendening aka Spendening)was in office or if Townsend won election. I was told that I was paranoid! OK,so I was off a couple years!LOL

The same people that say this won't affect them should pay ATTENTION! Read between the lines will ya!! Just because the anti's wants to ban Cap & Ball right now ,DO NOT BET ON IT! INHO the liberals in your state want to ban anything thats gun related(same here). If we DO NOTHING especially the crowd that says "it won't happen to me" you are in for a rude awakening! The ANTI'S WANT IT ALL! For the most part the only difference between the anti's in your state and mine is geographic locatiion! They (anti gun) want the same where ever they are located! But then I'm preachin' to the choir, huh?

We'll all be lucky to be left with flintlocks or matchlocks!! For those in denial or those who live with "TOTO and Dorothy get with the program!!

I sincerely hope that pro-gun groups in Pennsylvania are able to beat the anti's at their game!!
