Was at the range yesterday and a lifetime acquaintance of mine had one of these. First the charging handle broke in half- literally in half. So he replaced it with a new one, and then the BOLT ITSELF broke clean in two while shooting the thing. It also lacks a forward assist.

IMO, this weapon is total garbage, so if i might make a recommendation to the forum- stay away. (edit: I don't think the gun was a bushmaster?)The company is defunct now anyway i think. I am hardly surprised.

It said Carbon-15 on the side, i really didn't even check out the other markings, but my brother (who runs a range) mentioned that the company was defunct.

Regardless, whoever it is that makes it, it is a total piece of junk.

Carbon 15

The reason the Carbon 15 came to be was the "Assault weapons ban." They essentially banned AR pistols because of the "empty weight." AR pistols weighed too much, and by definition, became illegal. They definitely made the weight as low as they could.

I shoot a SCAR a buddy has, alot, the Bushmaster version of the SCAR is alot better.

The ACR was designed by Magpul. Unfortunately, when Bushmaster got involved, they priced it right out of the stratosphere. Too bad, because I would have really considered one.

Bushmaster is out of business!!?
No.
The orginial company that made the Carbon-15 was bought out by Bushmaster.

The Carbon-15 Co. is out of business, not Bushmaster.

I remember reading complaints about broken bolts in this gun as it was originally made by the Carbon-15 Co. Haven't heard any since BM took over manufacture, but then I haven't heard much of anything at all about it...good or bad. The internet being what it is (a first class echo chamber), not hearing anything about the BM version makes me tend to believe they must not be having many problems. Any complaints about a gun get repeated and echoed endlessly, whereas people tend not to post too much about guns that do what they are supposed to do.

Sometimes, when you are buying into the new technology, you end up getting bit by it.

I remember when a certain company started making pistols in the mid-80's. I just had to have one, I was even dissuaded from buying it, as I could have had a Beretta plus a case of ammo for the amount this thing was.

From day one, the pistol was a piece of junk. It was the real definition of "Jam-O-Matic!"

I even sent it back and it was supposedly fixed! I went to the range with the specified ammo to shoot out of it and it jammed again on the first shot. It's good I didn't have my 12 gauge with me as I would have probably unloaded the piece of junk, tossed it out on the lawn and blown it into bits and pieces.

Instead of that I traded it at a horrible loss.

Live and learn - the story of my life.:cuss: I think I could write a book.:banghead:

I must laugh about it or I would go bonkers.

LOL! :)

By the way, the pistol?
A Seecamp.

its "Professional Ordanance" that is out of business. Bushmaster bought the facility and make Carbons that work.

That's correct. Professional Ordnance made inferior products with lots of proprietary parts that wouldn't swap with standard AR-15 parts. Bushmaster bought them out and redesigned the Carbon 15 guns, bringing them up to their standards and getting rid of the oddball parts. I have a C15M4 Carbon 15 carbine that has been my patrol rifle for several years now and I've never had any trouble with it. It's accurate and reliable and all of the AR-15 accessories I've put in/on it fit just fine and work like they should.

I recall reading about a few issues with Bushmaster Carbon 15 firearms early on, but no final determination as to whether they were design or a user related problems. Haven’t experienced any issues with Bushmaster Carbon 15 9mm carbine I purchased several years ago.

It was a Professional Ordnance Carbon-15, Type 97.

Not only did the charging handle shear in two, but once repaired, the bolt literally broke in half after about 20 stoppage filled rounds with factory .223 rem ammo.

Total junk.

It not having a forward assist, based on the combat history of the AR in real battle, also struck me as being asinine. 9mm has one though.

A sampling of how many = junk? Mine feeds great, shoots one handed into bullseye. Super light. Easy to modify upper to make a nice SBR (without butt stock). Mine hasn't had any breakages...

Comparison made just because only 2 guns were there.

Friend had a new AK-clone, and I had a brand-new BM Carbon-15. (Serial DØ378X. Is that a newer serial?) We each had our own target and plenty of ammo (I had the Korean-twin scroll drum plus 4 AR mags full.) We scoped our targets at 50 yards. It was easy for me to hold inside the "9" with EOKlone scope, and he had iron sights. We found that my pistol was about twice as accurate as he was holding his AK. He had not yet regulated his sights tho'. I only wish that the "Carbon" part in the name stood for Carbon-fibre!! It's just a mottled polymer, injected set of pieces, upper, lower, pistol-buffer, etc. No jams at all, out of about 200 rounds. I'd buy another, but in the carbine length.

I've had the Bushmaster Carbon 15 for some time.
While I like the Kel Tecs much more, the C 15 isn't a bad gun.

The C 15 is so light weight you can shoot it one handed like a conventional pistol.

Bushmaster was aquired the the Freedom Group - same company that owns Remington, Marlin, and several other firearm and related companies.

I have one of the first p.o.s. carbon 15. the bolt broke. bushmaster stopped fixing the proffesional ordnance modles. they will fix it by rebarreling your upper at around 600 dollars. really pisses me off.

All this is odd to me. I have an early Pro Ordnance Carbon 15 rifle(with the fluted barrel), and had misfeeds. Sent it back to the company (very amicable, fixed for free) where I gather they replaced the receiver, and adjusted the buffer. It has functioned flawlessly since. I also had a Pro Ordnance Carbon 15 pistol that I bought on a lark, which worked very well, but I really couldn't hit much with it. I sold it for what I paid because I needed the cash.
I had always assumed (!) that Professional Ordnance went under because the gun market tends to favor traditional tried and true models. I had no idea that my one problem was magnified many times. I've generally had good luck with non-mainstream brands, like Star, Astra, Rossi, ASAI,and apparently Pro Ordnance!

Am I the only one who doesn't care for forward assist? I always build on uppers without FA and have never missed it.

In the civilian world, I can't see a need. Clean your gun often because you actually have the time to do it. If the round isn't chambering because of something in the chamber, its probably not a good idea to force it.

I don't see why they have to do it for free, they aren't responsible for it.
