Carbon 15 .. Prof. Ord... Parts???

I have a Carbon 15 that behaved up until P.O. went out of business. It was a first generation with the old style bolt. Now it won't extract. Anyone know who ended up with the redesigned bolts and replacement recoil springs.????? I guess that I could throw an AR Upper on it, but prefer to keep it as is..but functional..

Dude, you are talking about a Carbon 15 here.




..............scrap it and move on better for the expierence (like I did)
 
I know Pro Ords rep, but I have a friend who has 4 ARs and his favorite is the Carbon 15, claims that it will shoot 1.25 inch groups @ 100 yards with match ammo. Loves the weight and swears by his Pro Ord.

Maybe there were some good ones made afterall??????

Would love to know of any sources for replacement parts also, so please lets not let this go into a Pro Ord bashing thread.
 
oh mine was VERY accurate!!

.........when it actually fed and shot........... when the stock did not fall off while shooting.......... when the bolt did not break into several pieces
 
My Carbon 15 was always in one of two conditions.
1-Not broken yet (will be broken soon)
2-Broken at factory for repairs (no longer an option)

The Carbon 15 was a good idea that didn't really pan out when put into production----very lightweight. Think of it as an AR-15 with a plastic receiver.

My buddy had one--that sadly---was a piece of crap like the rest of them----think he got most of his money back because he had the good sence to dump it right away.
 
What's so special about the Carbon 15, is it made of carbon fiber?

Upper and lower receivers, buttstock and handguard are made of carbon fiber composite.

For what it's worth, my type 97 has been flawless. After 1999, Professional Ordnance changed the gas block assembly, bolt & extractor, the chambering and the buttstock takedown lever.

I know of two that have been converted to a standard recoil system and carrier.
One has a CAR stock on it and one has a Colt A1 stock.

Gary: Does it fail to extract every time? Is the casing stuck in the chamber? What brand of ammo are you using?

...................it is in no way carbon fiber or anything like it, as there is no grain or layer structure

Technically, fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composite.

Information from Market Development Alliance of the FRP Composites Industry:
A combination of:
- a polymer (plastic) matrix (either a thermoplastic or thermoset resin, such as polyester, isopolyester, vinyl ester, epoxy, phenolic)
- a reinforcing agent such as glass, carbon, aramid or other reinforcing material

such that there is a sufficient aspect ratio (length to thickness) to provide a discernable reinforcing function in one or more directions. FRP composite may also contain:

- fillers
- additives
- core materials

that modify and enhance the final product. The constituent elements in a composite retain their identities (they do not dissolve or merge completely into each other) while acting in concert to provide a host of benefits ideal for structural applications.

So, yes it is "plastic" BUT there is "carbon fiber" in it. I can see the fibers in areas of my Carbon 15.

OK, but the use of the word 'carbon' in the name was purely for marketing. They were taking advantage of the whole 'carbon fiber' craze..........while having actually nothing to do with actuall true carbon fiber construction on things like hi-end bike and aircraft parts.

Hell, it worked and they sold alot of rifles. Too bad the rifles did not work better because as I said above, mine was very accurate and fun to shoot.........when it actually worked. Yours seems to work fine so enjoy.
 
You may be in luck....

Apparently Bushmaster has purchased the assets of PO; I assume (there I go again) that before to long you'll be able to purchase PO specific parts from Bushmaster.
 
BUMP any updates on the purchase of those assets? I see Bushmaster has no new "Carbon 15"products in the catalog... what's the news?
 
That's pretty soon... hmmm... I wonder why those Pre-Bushmaster rifles were all on sale at the range I was at.... ;)
 
Bushmaster is already repairing Carbon 15's. They are really going out of their way to please past Carbon 15 owners.

I should add that from conversation that I have had with the folks at Lake Havasu City, Bushmaster wants the Carbon 15 to be a quality piece. I think they have been spending a good bit of time evaluating what they have and what they need to do. I am certain that they will bring their version to market.

They modified mine under the "Bushmaster" warranty and brought it up to the current models specs. I was told that it would be absolutely dependable. They replaced almost the whole gun. Rather impressive show of customer service. It was much more than I expected.

I've yet to get it back. I had to line-up an "assault weapons" dealer for receipt of shipment and these FFL's are a rare species in California.
