Carry Gun When Cutting The Grass ?

I live out in the country somewhat, have about 4 acres and two small kids. Live close to a boat ramp so every now and then I get drunk rednecks yelling out their windows at me yelling stupid ****. Also there are a lot of wild animals, including bobcats out here,so yeah.

Remington 870.

LOL, where legal, I always carry. OC or IWB depending on my location.

But you should question why you feel you need to carry a gun in your own back yard.
A very close friend of mine was having a house built in a gated, high class community. When she when in to the house a POS attacked and kidnapped her at knife point. Force her into her car (now a carjacking) and drove her 180 miles away to a room where he forced her into an raped her for about 6 hours.

She use to question why I carried a firearm all the time. She now knows that the world isn't all peaches and cream.

Most of us will never need a firearm, but if you can't tell me when I will need it I will carry.

I always carry while doing yard work. One reason being that my neighbor behind has two big dogs, one a St. Bernard mix, and the fence between our yards is three feet high. As far as I know, both dogs are well behaved and good natured, and I've never had a problem with them or my neighbors. But if for whatever reason, a 120 pound dog decides to come after me, I want to be able to do something besides bleed.

Anybody who can, with unerring accuracy, predict the future such as to know WHEN they will need a firearm for self-defense, needs instead to be playing the stock market. In no time at all, they'll be able to afford their own private army for protection.

I don't have that ability to predict the future, so whenever I leave the house, I have a loaded handgun with me.

I do!

I live in the country on 110 acres, and have to bush hog far away from the house.

Given the 4 leg critters, trespassing hunters, and zombies lurking in the underbrush, I am usually carrying a .45. I am going to figure a way to mount a scabbard on the JD tractor so I can carry the pump shotgun, also.

I seem to recall that one of the DC's sniper's victims was mowing his lawn when he was attacked. So it's not as if you shouldn't keep your guard up at all times.

I carry virtually all of the time simply because I want to know that I am carrying. My house does not have a "smooth" floor plan, and I don't leave guns all about it, so I want to know where it is. I don't want to have to, when the time comes, remember if I have it on me that day. I want it to be as much a habit as it was when I was in LE.
Oh, and "ChristCorp", the hammer analogy doesn't fly here. I doubt I will ever "need" a hammer as badly as I could one day "need" my gun. The worst that would happen if I don't have my hammer when I "need" it is that the nail just doesn't get put in right then.

I do, now. When I first moved into my neighborhood I had no thought of carring while cutting grass. Its a good neighborhood in the middle of the city. One day while mowing, I rounded the corner of my house only to find a stranger standing in the middle of the yard. He wanted to "borrow my lawn tractor" because his push mower had died. His car was parked in front of my house with an old push mower in the trunk. I politely told him my mower was not a loaner and he left. It dawned on me that I could have been at his mercy and that was when I decided to carry while mowing. My yard gun is a 357, and I carry it under my shirt. Surprise Surprise!

I can understand if in a bad location or land that has possible issues. But no I do not carry while cutting grass. I have a sniper in a tree to keep me covered.

I was working on a tractor today, it was running, and I looked up to see a scruffy-looking stranger 30 feet away and advancing. He and two other guys in a pickup truck (40 feet away) had driven 100 yards up my gravel drive without me hearing them over the tractor. Turns out they had driven from West Virginia looking for a commercial-quail hatchery that a neighbor of mine runs. Well, I figured out soon-enough that he was legit, but I sure was (again) glad that I'm one of those "kooky" guys that concealed-carries at home, in the yard, and even when I'm lubing a tractor.

I even carry when washing the dishes. That's because I once encountered a steak knife wielding coffee mug. I thought I was forked, but I escaped unharmed.

Skip a landscaping business I'm going start my own branch of blackwater and hire out sniper cover and other support to yard care workers and diy lawnmowers. Any takers? We could franchise, go public, and blow it up. :)

I'd work for you if you could provide rifle, ammo, range time, and $50k/yr.

General George S Patton. He lived in San Marino. ( he would have rolled over about 10 times if he new Asians owned his home today). any how he used to carry to Ivory handled 45s while pruning his roses.

I always carry--even if it's only the little Kel Tec in my pocket.
I hate cutting the lawn and only cut it when it gets really out of hand or the city gives me crap.
But yea--I'm carrying while cutting the lawn--in my neighborhood I won't go outside unarmed

Yes. I always carry. Prior to my retirement, I broke up a drug ring and fired several folks and put the careers of a lot of folks in jeopardy. Had death treats galore, security met me at the company property, escorted me into the building and escorted me off the property (I was asigned 3rd shift and many times I was the only manager on site). Although the company was anti-gun and did not allow weapons anywhere on the property, it was taken seriously enough the personnel manager allowed me to be armed at all times. I always thought the biggest threat was while I was home. Been retired over 20 years, nothing ever happened, but I consider it better to be a little paranoid and alive.

What do you do when you go to the post office?
I'm forced to disarm.

Court house to renew your registration?
I'm forced to disarm.

Or other places where you can't have a gun?
I'm forced to disarm

What if you worked for an employer that didn't allow weapons on their property?
Again, I'm forced to disarm.

But you should question why you feel you need to carry a gun in your own back yard.
Who said I feel I need to? The fact is, I allow myself to carry on my property, so I'm NOT forced to disarm.

See the difference?
