My Remington 1100 needs a new receiver finish--rust bluing won't work as the chromium content is too high; I'm considering color case hardening.

I'm worried about de-brazing the mag. tube with the high temperatures involved. I've considered welding in the mag. tube but think it's too thin to do so.

Any ideas?

I'd seriously consider hot blue for a 1100.

Color case will rather quickly wear off if you ever plan to use the gun again.

It even fades over time in sunlight if you take it outside!

Besides that, unless you have the necessary internal steel blocks and fixtures to keep the receiver from warping during the color-case cooking, it will.

And the thin mag tube would have to come off anyway beforehand, or otherwise it would probably melt at 1,400 degrees for a couple of hours.

There is always the cyanide approach to case coloring - notice I did not say hardening - as I doubt your receiver needs to be rehardened. It is less expensive and is the process that the inexpensive imports use to make them look good

Roger that--thanks for the advice. I was just trying to do something unique (maybe there's a reason why I've never seen a color case hardening job done on an 1100....)
