CCW piece for $300.00

I have gotten into budget guns lately and was wondering what gun I would carry if I only had $300.00 to spend. After alot of research and alot of buying and selling I have come to the conclusion that you don't always get what you pay for. There are many "budget" guns that are very reliable and for the most part accurate for a service gun. If you only had $300.00 to protect your life, day in and day out, what would you buy?

I'd first look for an FM Hi Power, then the KelTec P11. Spare mags are inexpensive. Both feed 9mm.
I have both these guns and have put hundreds of rounds through them without a problem so I know they work.

If there were a couple of years of history built up I would add the PF9 to the list.

Considering you'd need to buy a good holster and some ammunition to prove it, on a $300.00 budget I'd go searching for a used revolver.

bulgarian makarov. good accuracy and reliability. sights are less than ideal, but in most self defense incidents you will most likely be point shooting. aim surplus has them for 269.00. 9x18 is cost effective for practice. very easy to conceal.

I've heard good things about the Arcus 94/98 (Hi Power clones), though it doesn't get discussed here very often. They seem to be selling for about $300 lately. It's a bit large for concealing, though.

Perhaps if you don't train to acquire the sights when you draw and fire. If on the other hand you train to do so and draw and acquire the sights thousands of times it is very likely you will do just that should you ever have the need.

In new guns, it's HARD if not impossible to beat a Bersa Thunder 9 or Thunder compact 9 for sub-$300 (though it may cost you $325+ all said and done, with tax and/or FFL xfer & shipping), or a KelTec P11, I suppose, also. May not hold up to thousands of rounds, but will work well for awhile.

In used guns, you can sometimes find some quality pieces for sub-$300: Makarovs, PA-63, Arcus 94, FEGs, Star Firestars, .38 snub revolvers from Smith, Colt, Ruger, Taurus, etc.

Best deal in that range in my mind is finding a used S&W 469 - $275 to $325 is a typical used price range. Good value for a small, concealable, high-cap pistol of excellent quality.

IMO if you want a semi-auto buy the Kel-Tec PF-9.
If you want a revolver buy a used S&W J frame or even a snub nose K frame.
A short barrel Ruger Six-Series revolver would do quite well too.

All are within your $300 budget.

street price for a smith and wesson 669 is around 300-350 in good condition. good capacity, accurate, lightweight, and concealed carry friendly. might also look into the newest ruger .380 i held one the other day, and it was like holding a small framed .22. they go for 250-300. dont get in a hurry if you want a "good" cheap gun. eventually you will run into someone who needs to sell one fast to make a little extra cash. if you need one right away and want the advantage of a warranty i would go with a new ruger. good luck.

I recently bought a used Kel-Tec P11 for $275 and it has been 100% for me with 200 rounds fired with no problems. Nice handly little gun I have no problem carrying concealed. That being said, the Ruger for $300 is hard to beat.

Since Makarovs were mentioned, I'd suggest a very good condition CZ vz82. Picking mine up today for just under $220. That leaves me room for some more ammo, a decent holster, and such. If you're not adverse to using the less powerful 9x18 cartridge, it will be a good weapon for CCW. If you're looking for new, then all the suggestions above will do you well. The one I'd probably be just a touch wary about is the Kel-Tec PF-9. Don't get me wrong, it's a great little gun, but the single stack grip is very thin, and it can really punish your hand. Buy it if you're going to practice every once in a while, but don't if you plan on using it a lot on the range. Happy hunting!

1. Arcus 94/98 DA or DAC. Well executed design based primarily off of the Browning High Power. Worth the $300 brand new

2. Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact or Full Size. Has features you can't find in most handguns twice its size. Its reliable and reasonably accurate. $300 brand new.

Those are the two I would recommend as brand new models...if you're asking for used then the list could go on for quite some time...
