CT, it's expensive here
Since I am going to be new to CCW soon I was wondering what are the laws regarding CCW while passing through different states?
If one state has different CCW laws than another how are you affected?
Is the potential confusion the source for a national CCW permit?
Thanks for the responses.

check packing.org for reciprocy of the states you wil be pasing through with your state.

If you will be pasing through a state that doesn't have reciprocy with your state you will need to store the gun per the states transfer laws to be legal. Basicly that is to say that the state you are passing through recognizes the permit from the state you have a permit issued from. Some states except most anyones, some states are very strict. So check the reciprocy and plan accordingly.

As for simply transporting (cased, glove box, whatever is a legal way to transport a firearm in the state) so long as you are just pasing through reguardless of ownership cards and what not you are allowed under federal law to do so...even if some state *cough*nj*cough* ignore this.

As you will find on Packing.org, Connecticut doesn't have reciprocity with anyone. Only those states that recognize any other state's permit will consider a CT permit valid.

Fortunately New Hampshire does have reciprocity agreements, and few of those states distinguish between resident and non-resident permits. A New Hampshire non-resident permit is $20 and the state will process your application within ten business days. Follow the links on Packing.org to download the application.

Without a permit, Lupinus is correct about how to transport a firearm. Only Vermont and Alaska recognize your right to carry a firearm without a permission slip from the .gov.

To keep it simple:

Know the laws of the State that issued your permit.
Know the laws of the State(s) you plan to travel to and through.

As mentioned, packing.org is a good place to start.
