Has anybody heard anything about this??? A friend of mine that retired from Marlin a few years ago said he couldn't get access to his 401K / retirement account. When he called Marlin to ask about it he said that the accounts were in the process of being changed over due to the Cerberus buy out and everything should be fixed in a week or so....

I looked on the Cerberus site and the Marlin site, I couldn't find anything. Has anybody heard anything or was somebody at Marlin "yanking this guy's chain"???

Maybe Cerberus bought the firm that manages the 401K?

I hope they didn't buy Marlin. I can't find any mention of that on the 'net. I don't think there's been any word of such a thing happening.

Marlin makes top-quality guns of unique design for good prices, and the last thing we need is another also-ran AR-15 clonemaker.

Yanking his chain or not, the guy should have access to his 401k account. The market (and especially specific investments) can change drastically in a week, potentially costing that guy mucho $$$.

So Remington is an AR-15 Clonemaker?

As of 2008, yes.

We'll see what Cerberus does with Remington. A good outcome would be more and better R&D.

There's a huge difference between Remington and Marlin, though. Remington has significant LE and government sales. Really different dynamic than Marlin.

Quality of new Marlins is superb, though. I'd hate to see out-of-town bean counters run the place. Remington has already jacked up the prices of its bolt guns and shotguns; if anything, a new owner might want to be more competitive.

Seems the 105CTi would be a slam dunk for $999, for example. We'll see.

If I'm not mistaken cerberus also owns bushmaster and I think most people feel like the quality is there. Link to a story on the buy out of marlin?

Cerberus is trying to own everything, Chrysler, several funds companies, remmington, bushmaster, Natl rent a car, Alamo rent a car, and many other companies. Which is good for us and the gunmaking companies, since they got a ton of money behind them, and can push for quite a while to get a certain type gun/rifle going without having to worry about , ' it has to make money right away' . Bushy now offers 60 diff types of ar combos, so they can't be all bad, for a big bad, global corp, can they?

Of course, as Marlin owns New England Firearms, and NEF is importing Norinco 870 clones as their Pardner pump-action shotguns, then they'd own the 870 production and the importation of its knock-off. Interesting.

They’ve done nothing but good with Remington and Bushmaster, so I doubt that they will hurt Marlin.

I can’t wait for the Marlin-15!!!

My concern is too many firearm related companies under one umbrella.
If that umbrella gets "lost" , or "stolen" , or "given" - it sure could cause a lot of folks to get drenched.

I do not trust this bunch, it smells of Tyranny down the road.

I think our tinfoil hats were tuned to the same wavelength. That's the very first thought I had as well. But I think the reality is that you have to follow the dollar. And if a company with that much financial muscle decides it sees a future return on investment for fighting restrictive/oppressive/tyrannical gun laws it'd work out really well for us.

Worst case, they shut down all the firearms firms they own, and there'd be a couple of years of high prices while the market scrambled to fill the market vacuum, and a whole shiny new bunch of firearms entrepreneurs start raking it in hand over fist.

The worst case ain't that bad, and the best case is pretty good.

I was thinking about this all day... the possibilities are indeed interesting. A company like Marlin that only brings out something new once in every blue moon... a sudden influx of a large amount of capitol for improving things... maybe a little more R&D? This is only beneficial.
What sort of new guns could Marlin come out with? Maybe bring back some of the old guns that they've dropped? Maybe bring out a couple levers in .460 or .500 Magnum like Wild West Guns? Who knows? But the possibilities are there. What I'd like to see? Marlin offer some good strong/lightweight synthetic stocks on their stainless guns.

The three headed dog has purchased a great many other companies in other industries... including an airline. In all cases, the companies have been improved thanks to internal stress relief and optimization. No mass firings, no severe cut backs... No, no problems that I have seen. I looked into this when they bought Remington. Remington is doing just fine.

Best answer I can get back from Marlin is that they are up for sale, but nothing has been finalized yet.

A .460 lever action might just be the perfect Texas pick-up truck behind the seat coyote, jack rabbit and SD rifle. An almost legitimate reason to get a new gun. I love it. Use the .460 to reach out for coyotes and the .45LC for cheaper shooting.
