Hi, I was thinking of getting an additional rifle, but cannot really justify the high price of AK. What do people think of the Cetme .308 in comparison to accuracy, durability and overall power compared to an AK47? I was thinking the .308 caliber gives to more versatility and is more powerful than the AK's 7.62 x 39 caliber. Also, I was not sure if Cetme have more accuracy? Can a Cetme rifle take the same type of beating an AK can, like being thrown in the mud and still not jam? I am interested, because I have seen a few of these guns for a decent price and like the fact it uses the .308 ammo which I will use with my DPMS LR-308 gun. I like to hear opinions.

Also, what do people think of Saiga .308 compared to an AK47, as an overall SHTF defense gun?

Why would a person choose an AK over a Cetme or Saiga .308 and vice versa?

The CETME will have more accuracy and power, but I feel that the AK would be more reliable/durable (less parts, simpler operation).

Most of the cheap cetme are century builds and ive heard most have alot of problems. The saiga 308 is a fine gun decent accuracy. Its only down fall is no mil spec mags.

How many bullets can u put in a Saiga mag? Is Saiga as reliable and durable as an AK? I think most Saigas are Century brands too right? I have seen a few cheap Saigas.. I want a cheap and powerful rifle in addition to my ARS.. I just cannot see myself spending $800 on a Romanian AK.

Saiga is a Kalashnikov PC'd up for "sporting purposes" importation crap laws...

"Saiga a century brand..."

Uh, nope... Century may sell modified Saiga's but those are done by TGI...

An unmolested Saiga is made in Russia on the Izhmash assembly lines.

Saiga's are a great value for the money, or at least they were before the election. Now everything seems to be priced out of sight. They're some of the most accurate AK's out there and they still have that rock solid AK reliability.

The main problem with the .308 Saigas are the mags. They're all expensive, (even the low capacity ones). The FBMG mags seem pretty good, but the Sure-fires aren't quite as nice.

Is it possible to find 20 round mags for Saiga .308? How much do the rounds cost? Can you use drums in a Saiga? How would the accuracy of a Saiga .308 compare to that of an AR10? I am thinking I would use the Saiga for more close range shooting; like a combat rifile.

There are 20 and 25 round Saiga 308 mags out there. Before the election they were around $45 each. Cheap 7.62x51, (.308), goes for about $.50 a shot. Better stuff costs about $1 a shot. I'm not aware of any drums for the .308, but you can easily modify a 7.62x39 Saiga to take standard AK mags and drums.

An AR10 will generally outshoot a Saiga. A typical Saiga .308 is capable of 4 MOA with most ammo. If you find the stuff it likes or work up a handload you'll probably get groups around 2 MOA. A free floated AR10 with good ammo will probably deliver 1 MOA accuracy.
