Cetme - accidental full auto

Shot a few of my guns while on R&R. My cetme (which was semi automatic when i deployed) fired a couple of single shots, and then let out a 3 round burst. I paused, figured it was a one time thing and fired again. About 7 rounds were fired with one trigger squeeze. I was not trying to get arrested on leave, so i cleared the weapon, and left the range.

Even though full auto weapons are so much fun, I need to get this fixed. Has anyone had this problem with thier cetme? Any ideas on what the problem could be? I am tracking that some weapons can be dangerous when they fire full auto, and some are fine. Will it be risky to fire this cetme when diagnosing it? My assumption is that I have a screwed up trigger mechanism assembley, but assumption is the mother of all f ups.

I am back in the 'stan now, but I will be back to america at some point and would like to fix my cetme. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know too much about G3/CETME triggers but that's kinda scary! It could be a faulty spring, trigger sear shaved down too much, etc etc. There are quite a few owners on here, opefully someone in here will be able to help you out!

Also could be something as simple as old gummy oil in the bolt "gluing"the firing pin in a forward position. Could also be too much lube in the trigger group, we use to call WD-40 "auto trigger in a can". Clean everything well and try it again. If it still does it trigger parts are cheap enough to replace trigger, sear, and hammer without it costing too much. Or you can send it to Williams Trigger Specialties and get back a absolutely superb trigger with a lifetime warranty.

Firing pin ?

I would go with what 451 stated. The L1A1's FN FAL type rifles will do that on occassion and 90% of the time it's a broken firing pin.

CETME full auto...

First, thank you for your service.

I've read of this happening on some other boards and one of the things recommended to check is the double spring in the FCG. When you remove the lower, you can see the spring that goes from the hammer to the selector switch. Some times one side of the spring will slip out of the notch and cause FA. Also, as others have said.. check your firing pin/spring.
BTW many in the know recommend using an HK-G3 firing pin and spring here.
A number of HK-G3 parts will work in the CETME, and are considerd an improvement.

I think that was the story of the guy who had an L1A1 fire full auto and they arrested him and he had to spend a lot of $$$$ to prove he didn't mod the firearm. In short. The ATF fired like 300 rounds before it was duplicated with that firearm and it turned out to be a broken firing pin. From this, the requirement for the ATF to video tape all testing was put into effect. But the guy was broke and it wrecked his business after all the court hearings and legal fee's

I just got back to internet access, and was suprised by all the responses. Thanks everyone. 451 Detonics - you might be spot on, I definetly soaked my weapons in clp before storing them for 7 months. I did wipe them down before my range visit, but I very well could have missed a spot (or half-assed it). When I get back to MY guns, I will clean it, inpect the firing pin/spring, and the spring to the selector switch. If all else fails I will replace the trigger mech assembley.
As for the legal ramifications, I will be test firing on private property in the middle of nowhere to keep the government out of my business. Heaven forbid a sergeant in the Army fires a select fire weapon... Until then I'll play with my ma duece and 240 B.

Cetme fix

With all due respect..
Two reasons for FA in a SACetme and clones)
- weak firing pin spring
-sear spring has slipped out of one of the notches.
Dis-assemble the bolt head and clean well.
Replace firing pin spring with a new G3 spring
Check sear spring in the FCG
I keep my RDB's well lubed and they NEVER go FA
IMHO
