Hey guys I'm new to the forum! Glad to be here. I just turned 19 and I'm ready to purchase my first gun on my own. I'm looking for a used 12 gauge pump Action shotgun. I want a barrel for hunting longer than 20" at least. I am on a low budget so I'm thinking 250$ Is The absolute max I can spend. I would like to find a mossberg 500, maverick 88, Remington 870, 887, or Benelli Nova. I am not necessarily restricted to these but they are my top choices. I also prefer black senthetic. Again I would not rule out wood or camo. I live in kings mountain nc and have explored local pawn shops in my area such as American tactical and pawn in Shelby nc. I've been to a few local gun stores as well. Is it too much for me to ask to find a gun that I'm looking for at around the 200 range used? I have found a few maverick 88's for 150 but I can buy one new at walmart for 200$ i would definitely pay 200 for a 500 or 870 but the cheaper maverick 88 used should be priced less than 50$ off new retail. I've even been to a gun show in Charlotte and could find nothing at a decent price. Am I dreaming or should I be able to find a good gun for the right price ?

If you have a Dick's or similar, they will run sales where those guns should be right about in your price range. Remember to include sales tax and of course, some ammo!

I think it is a very reasonable expectation. I could probably find you one locally at that price the problem is by the time you drove to the other side of the state you'd have lost any savings plus in gas costs.

You can get the guns on your list new with $250. Just go to WalMart. If you choose a Mossberg 500 get one with a wood stock. It's a better made gun. If you decide to put an aftermarket stock on wood stock 500 it's a lot easier. The only downside of the wood stock 500 it takes about 100 rounds to get it broke in. The pins in the forestock support need to wear a small groove on the magazine before it pumps real slick.

Okay thanks for the suggestions. What would you guys say a used 500 in good condition should be worth?

If you have anything like Thrifty Nickle, or Trading Post free want add newspapers in your area, keep a watch in them every week.

Around here, used pump shotguns turn up quite often, and the owner is usually in need of cash and ready to deal or he wouldn't have advertised it.

I have seen several $200 - $250 Remington 870 Wingmasters in ours in the last few months.

check pawn shops and gun shows.

back when i still lived at home in new bern i snagged a broken 870 supermag for 75 bucks and fixed it in 20 mins

150-200 should be easy

if ur up for a bit of a drive soverign guns in fuquay is a great shop. dont forget to haggle

For $250 you should have no trouble finding a "very good" American made pump shotgun. Take your time and look in the Pawn shops for Remington 870 , Mossberg 500 , the Ithaca 37, and the Winchester 1300.
