I was hoping to get some feed back on the charter arms patriot chambered for the 327 magnum, I have a SP101 in the 327 version now & was considering getting a charter arms version as a " beater gun " to take fishing & atving as a ccw gun. My question on them is what do you think about their reliability? Would you consider them better that Taurus ( which I've read NIGHTMARE stories about) or would you rank them even lower that a taurus? It would bring a tear to my eye if I dropped my SP in the water or mud for some reason while out kayaking / fishing ( I usually wade the water from small mouth fishing) or atving. Any thoughts & insight are welcome

Dropping a stainless SP-101 in the water would not be worst thing that could happen.

Dropping a gun in the water you can't very easily field strip and get the water & sand out of the lockwork would be the worst thing.

That would be the Charter Arms.

I'd say your SP-101 is about as good as you can do for a white-water gun.

can't comment on the pros and cons of the charter arms, but suggest you carry a can of wd (water displacement) 40 with you just in case. spraying every crook and cranny (remove the grips as they will retain the water) will keep the water at bay until you get it home for a good cleaning.

oh, and keeping a spare pistol on your forays into the wild can save you a premature trip back home. fwiw

Bad mouth Taurus and Charter Arms all you want, but I hunt and fish in places that a dropped handgun is unrecoverable. If I drop a Taurus or a Charter Arms I will be upset, but if I lost a Colt or a S&W I would be UPSET. Keep the high dollar value guns out of the tackle box, save them.
