Just wanted to let my fellow forum-ites know that I just bought a bunch of 5-round boxes of Remington 2.75" 9-pellet 00 buck for $3.00 per box at one of the Meijer stores in Lansing, MI. (For those unfortunate enough to live outside of Michigan or the Great Lakes area, Meijer is a big-box store kind of like Wal-Mart, but family-owned). It's a clearance price, so I think it's likely the same chain-wide.

I looked it up online at this stuff usually goes for $4 to as much as $6. It's even cheaper than I could find Wolf online.

It's unplated, buffered shot. MidwayUSA lists it at 1350fps. I've read some pretty good things about it. If nothing else, it's cheap range-fodder. Thought I'd spread the word.

Perhaps if I get around to a pattern-test in my 20" choked barrel, I'll post a report with pictures.

Those are on sale here in the Meijer's in the Det. metro area as well. They also have Rem .270 loads for $15/box, along with some other deals. I think they are just trying to get rid of what they don't sell very much of.

:what: Meijer has ammo? I haven't seen ammo there before, I'll have to go look again.

Does this stuff have flitecontrol?

This is not a Flite-Control load. Flite-Control is loaded by ATK in their Federal ammunition (and I think they allow it to go into some Hornady TAP loads also)

This is Remington ammunition with buffered but unplated shot. I've read some about it and people seem to have good experiences with it.

Oh, and this was at the Meijer's on Saginaw St. in Lansing. Every Meijer store I've been to has ammo, though.

The Meijer in Wixom and the Meijer in Walled Lake (I think?) both no longer carry any ammo.

I wonder if the other Meijer's are clearancing out ammo to get rid of it all?

Wait Wait Wait........Is 9.00 for 20 55g UMC .223 good?
It's at least competitive. I bought the same at WalMart in South Lyon a month ago for about $8.50; 2 weeks ago it was about $9.50. It's going up almost as fast as gas.

To add to my previous response:

I've learned from Remington's website that this load does have a full-length shot cup, unlike many buckshot loads that just leave the pellets to scrape against the barrel as they exit. That should help patterns some, I suppose. Seems like pretty good stuff, from what I've been reading.

Now I just have to get out and see for myself.

Good to know, thanks. I bought 5 boxes of the Remington OO buckshot loads last night at my local Dick's Sporting Goods for $4.49 each. Planning to run some through my Mossberg Mariner tomorrow.

I sure wouldn't mind a range report with pics! :D

Might be a bit before I get a chance to go shoot this stuff.

ADDITIONAL

I went back today and thought I might pick up a few more boxes of the Remington buckshot that was on clearance while I was at the Meijer's on Saginaw west of Lansing, but you guys bought it all.

I did make another find, though. Now they have Winchester 3" 15-pellet 00 buck on clearance for $3.60 per box of 5. This is unplated, buffered shot. 15 00-size pellets at 1210fps. Here's the load at MidwayUSA: http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=642445

Might be a bit of a kicker. Cheap, though!

As an aside; I was in the Lansing Gander Mountain looking at ammo. Buckshot, mostly. I wanted to see if they had any #1 buck to test. Not a speck of it anywhere. Plenty of #4 though. I was hoping to find a Federal Flite-Control load, too. No luck. I understand, seeing as how nobody I know in Michigan hunts with buckshot. Get this, though: They had a box of Hornady TAP 00 buck, which I believe also has the Flite-Control wad. Only $9.99 for the 5-round box ! No no no!

Oh, and this Meijer's store also had Remington Core-Lokt sabot slugs in 12ga. on clearance at $12/box

Even more!

Same store today had a little tab on the ammo shelf that said Winchester Super-X 2.75" rifled slugs were on sale for $2.99 per box of five until August 2nd. That's a great price, on a most excellent rifled slug. It works out to about $9 per 15 rounds, which is $3 cheaper than buying the 15-pack!

Ill have to check the local meijers. Thanks for the heads up, Although Im probably too late.

Id also like to add that anyone that knows of the Allen Park (metro detroit) Sportsmans Warehouse, If you already havent found out, Its closed as of July 20th 2008. After only 9 months open. Too bad, they had a nice reloading component section with very competetive pricing.
