Cheap ammo online; really?

There is really no way to have prevented this man from shooting barring a full-on ban. Ban online sales and you'll just annoy everyone, but he could have still bought ammo in a store. People like James Holmes and MAJ Hasan (Ft Hood shooter) are the poster children for why gun "restrictions" are silly. The person who is most likely to commit a mass shooting is someone with nothing on his record to prevent him from buying stuff, so unless it is outright banned (which raises up a ton of other problems), restrictions won't do anything.

Apparently, people who have never owned guns have a common misconception that ammo sales are restricted or regulated. When they find out ammo sales are not regulated, they freak out and write articles like this.

...pathetic!

I like how they mention the 100 round drum, but ignore the fact that the AR jammed because of it and caused Holmes to switch weapons.

It is puzzling that these folks are fixated on the quantity of ammunition purchased without appearing to care about how many rounds were fired. We know less than 100 rounds of .223 were fired and less than 10 of shotgun and we can guess less than 90 rounds of .40, but we know for certain that you can't carry 6,000 rounds of .223 and .40 ammunition into a theater so how many rounds were purchased is not relevant to the crime committed in any way.

A full on ban would not have stopped him from killing people either. Mass murderers find a way. They always have, they always will. I don't mean to sound cold here, but mass murder is not a new phenomenon. Mass murderers use many ways of killing their victims. More people have been killed in the United States by mass murderers using other forms of technology to kill people instead of guns.

The Tokyo mass murderers did not use guns, yet were successful in their quest.......poison is easier to use and spread......

You cannot stop someone that bent on their mission - punishing innocent folks doesn't work; otherwise we would be banning cars due to DUI killings
