Garry McCarthy says that supporters of the 2a and NRA members are corrupting the political process.
It's so absurd on so many levels that it boggles the mind!
First, let's talk about corruption. Is it possible he was being ironic? Becuase, News Alert, the city of Chicago is a cess pool of corruption and greased wheels.
Second, I haven't looked at current shooting stats, but there's on average 3 shootings a day (about 1000 a year). Care to guess how many are done by people with FOID cards and concealed cary licenses? I'd wager less than 0.5%.
Third, there is a fairly famous story about Garry drunkenly shooting a streetlight. If that's how he treats the awesome responsibility that is gun ownership, no wonder he's worried about "us". He thinks every one is as irresponsible as him.
Not to mention his manipulation of statistics to make the crime rate look lower. There's some fairly well documented instances of, for instance. downgrading a rape to a simple assualt, or a homicide to a 'death investigation,' etc.
I'm not positive, but I would wager he's paid more than any other person on the City's payroll. I think that money could be spent better elsewhere. You could get more value out of a dollar bill bon fire, for example.
I know to most of the people here, Chicago is and has been a lost cause. I live here because my entire family is here, plus work. I'm trying to tough it out. I really think there's enough sensible people left that we can right the ship. I'm probably too optimistic. Everytime I think the people of Illinois can't get any dumber, they manage to prove me wrong (See Blago, Quinn, Dick Durbin, etc).
A good first step would be firing Garry McCarthy and electing Rauner over Quinn. A man can dream...
