i'm thinking about a stock for a rem700 308 project and was looking at these. they apparently come in regular, "sniper" and "varmint" styles, but i can't tell the difference in the three and their web page was appreciably shy of helpful. the only difference i could find was 4 vs 6 lbs for varmint and sniper, respectively.

can anyone clue me in to the differences?

also, any experiences, pros/cons

The difference between the sniper version and the varmint one is that the sniper one has an angled forend which allows for easier front elevation adjustments. Both stocks have a rail system embedded in the forend that allows the sling swivel to be moved fore and aft. Due to the angle of the Sniper one, you can slide it forward for elevation gain and rearward for lowering the forend. You should know that these are heavy stocks and that the "stippling" is actually very abrasive because it's comprised of tightly packed pointy cones. Seriously, these things could cause woven gloves to come undone. The truly awesome thing about these stocks aside from their adjustability is the side mounted sling swivels which makes carrying a heavy rig (like this would be so stocked) an absolute pleasure because there isn't anything pointy pressing against your back. I'm planning on putting one of these on my Savage 10FP mostly because the McMillan A5 that I dream of costs twice as much!

I dropped a Win Mod 70 Stealth (I) into a Varmint and am happy with it. The barrel channel is very generous. only shortcoming is the lower branch that extends from the base of the grip. It can be felt by the shooting hand and may not provide the absolute best grip. Forearm is nice and wide for benchwork. Not as flat as a BR rifle but equal to any of the other Varmint rifles.
