Can someone tell me more about chokes such as the sizes and what each means? My new Winchester 1300 Walnut Field came with a couple of chokes so what should I keep in it for HD situations and what would I use for trap? I'm still learning about all the SG lingo.

Thanks

A search of the archives will give you tons of input. Here's a brief overview.

CHokes for HD is nigh meaningless due to the close nature of confrontations. Even the most open choke has little spread over room sized range.

Most choke sets run something like Improved Cylinder, Modified, and Full choke.

IC is the most open. Full for the longer shots, and Modified in between.

Modified is your best bet for starting out at trap, but Full will get you on them tighter and faster.

HTH....

Actually, Rut, cylinder is more open but when did you see one in a 3 tube set? Given the chokes he most likely has, IC's the most open.

Most Win chokes Imp Cyl throw excellent patterns with buckshot or slugs. I have had them since the late 70's on my 870s and 1100s. Blasphemy I know, but they were the only internal choke available at the time!
The only thing to know about them, besides smearing them with a small amount of antiseize compound before tightening them snugly with the factory tool is that when you change them between different tubes(even of same constriction) :) you may get a pretty good pattern shift!
