I finally got my new Cimarron Single Action 45 Colt and was quite surprised that it was a Pietta now and not Uberti like before. The gun looks nice but I have to say that it has a bunch of sharp corners I did not expect. Not bad but noticeable. I would have passed on it but it was a custom order so home it went.

I was trying to support Texas companies with Cameron but I guess I should have gone with a USFA.

Am I being to hard on the Pietta because I had the impression that they were one step down from Uberti which was one step down from USFA?

I'm not sure Cimarron has switched to Pietta for all their single actions. Did you by any chance order the Frontier model? I noticed it IS made by Pietta. I was under the impression that their Model P's were still Uberti.

It is called their Model "P" on the web site.

Color case hardened pre-war frame 4 3/4" barrel 45Colt.

The gun looks very nice, finish is good to nice. Just a lot of sharp edges like on the edge of the trigger that surprised me.

I agree with 38 Super. It seemed like a downgrade to me. I was expecting Uberti.

Peter, I e-mailed Chris Ballard, head of dealer sales at Cimarron and asked him about this. He said their Model P's are made by Uberti. He did confirm that their Frontier model is indeed made by Pietta and is so identified on their website. It is made in several barrel lengths. He did say the only way to see the Pietta marks on it is by removing the ejector housing. Is that correct?

I pulled up their website and then clicked on the Frontier model. These guns are exactly as you described, (basically a Model P) When I clicked on the specs for it, it states it is made by Pietta.

Hope this helps explain the situation.

PS-Don't get confused by Cimarron's Frontier Six Shooter finish which is a true case coloring that can be given to any Model for an extra $250, I think.

Well, what I ordered was supposed to be and appears to be MP410SSI02 or the "man with no name single action" which according to the Cimarron site is suppoed to be made by Uberti. It is the 4 3/4" case hardened pre-war frame with inlaid snake grips on both sides. What I got is that gun but made by Pietta or the PP410SS102 which on their web site is actually about $90 more expensive.

The gun came in a Pietta box and all of the paperwork says Pietta so it seems pretty clear it is.

As you point out, most of the model P's are Uberti but some are Pietta's so I guess I should edit my thread to say some model P's are now Pietta's.

Probably somewhere along the way between my ordering it (4 months ago) and it showing up, someone filled the order with Pietta and not Uberti.

Peter, I pulled up the specs for that model and I see what you mean now. Seems kind of strange that they have the same model revolver made by two different companies.

Chris did mention they were in the process of updating their website for the addition of new items.

Just FYI, these folks are really nice to talk with if you ever have any questions. They answer emails very quickly. I had a problem with a Richards Type ll conversion that I ordered and they were extremely helpful is correcting the problem.

For the last three or four years Pietta quality has risen to the same level as Uberti and, in the case of their cap and ball revolvers, actually surpassed Uberti. I have done action jobs on a number of both for cowboy action shooters and this is what I have seen.

Royal, I see that you're in Wendell, NC. I pass by there quite often for a stop in Perry's on my way home from Raleigh.
Do you have a shop?

From what I have heard, Piettas are no longer a 'downgrade'. But, I have a Pietta 1860 and have to agree that I had to stone some sharp edges. Edges aren't all there is to determining quality though.

I thought it was the other way around, the Pietta is a better product than the Uberti although over the years both have gotten much better. As for the USFA, I feel that are every bit as good as a Colt or even slightly better. IMO a USAF revolver is the best SA revolver you can purchase other than one made by Freedom Arms.

Never owned any older ones, but my 3 Piettas that are all made since 2009, are fantastic, fit and finish are great, and the actions are much better from the box, than my Ubertis were.

Can't comment on Pietta quality cuz I don't own one but own several Cinmarrons. Love em but have to say that I also own USFA's and Colts.

My favorite is the Cimarron RM conversion in 44 Colt but for quality out the box, you can't beat the USFA. Smooth and acurate. Own several Colts also, but still gotta say I prefer the USFA

Seems like all of us have experience with some SAAs but not all.

I have a Uberti 1873 Cattleman NM Brass.
It's accuracy is right up there with the best.

I had a Cimmaron Model P (Uberti).
It was good, but I like the Uberti better, so I sold the Cimmaron.
It wasn't quite as accurate, & when I first got it, every dang screw on it was loose.

Well, I am just going to shoot the tar out of it and not worry about it. Some guns I buy for collecting and keeping and I originally intended this to be that way. now it will move down to the class of shooter and have some fun with. It will be interesting to see how it lasts and handles when I can get over this bloody cold and get to the range!
