Clerk Fires Back In Robbery Attempt

Robbers shot and wounded a northwest Harris County convenience store clerk late Monday but the clerk fired back and sent one of the attacker to the hospital in critical condition, the Harris County Sheriff's Department reported.

The shooting occurred at the Phillips 66 store in the 10000 block of Veterans Memorial Drive about 11:25 p.m., deputies reported.

The clerk was alone in the store when two men entered and opened fire.

When the clerk fired back the pair fled and one was hit by a bullet as he ran, deputies said.

The names of the clerk and the wounded robber were not immediately available this morning,

Deputies reported that the clerk was taken to LBJ Hospital in stable condition and the wounded robber was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in critical condition, deputies reported.

The second robber escaped, running north on Veterans Memorial, deputies said.

Hopefully the clerk makes a quick recovery...They need to get him back to protect that store!
