I dont have a birth cert here in iraq, and i'm sure my mother doesnt want to dig thru my stuff to find it.

Is a social security card considered proof of citizenship? I've emailed CMP but they have yet to respond

Thanks in advance.

It isn't proof of citizenship, no, because non-citizens (such as myself!) can have one if they meet the criteria for legal residency & eligibility to work.

Do you have a passport with you?

Are you active duty military? If so, I'm pretty sure your proof of current military service will satisfy the proof of citizenship requirement.

Post your question the CMP forums in the "Ask Orest" section.

Scratch that. I just found out that there are non-US citizens serving in the Navy and Marines, so military service won't be able to satisfy the proof of citizenship requirement.

From what they told me when I was in the South Store recently, military ID is adequate proof of citizenship if you are a commissioned officer. Enlisted folks still need birth certificate or passport, since non-citizens can enlist. Not sure on warrants -- the lady behind the counter did not know what they were, so she wasn't sure and, being an NCO I did not really press for a solid answer.

fitz,

Generally the only three valid forms of "proof of citizenship" the CMP will take are copies of:

US Birth Certificate
US Passport
US Naturalization papers

As stated, proof of being a Commissioned Officer would also suffice as only citizens can do so.

BTW, thanks for serving our country.

Best regards,
