I am considering picking up a coach gun, Perhaps one of the russian makes.Any info concerning workmanship, reliability or which weapons to avoid would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance .......Mike

Take a look, at the Stoegers.I like mine and it always goes boom.
some of the new chinese copies coing in are very nice.Thjere is one sold by TTN I believe it is that is rock solid and well fit.(fitted?)Sorry,I dont have a link to them.
The Russian guns are being used by a lot of cowboy shooters as they are super priced,as are the Chinesse ones.Nearly all of 'em benefit greatly by some 'smithing and spring replacement...they're sprung like mac trucks.

I have heard great reviews about the Chinese TTN repro of the Colt 1887 SxS. The old Colt (and this new TTN) have hammers very close together and both can be cocked with one thumb. Under the direction of suppliers aimed at the CAS market, the quality seems to have come up a lot.

While I don't go out of my way to buy Chinese, buying Russian doesn't rank any better. Are the guys in Brazil any more friendly either?

I've got a Baikal. I think it is very decent, for the price. Quality and function is very good. The fit and finish much better than I expected.

I don't support Communist governments. The Russians are "Former" Commies, the Brazilians aren't either one.

My Trap gun is a Baikal, and it has gone bang every time I've pulled the trigger with a round in it. Even breaks clays on the rare occasion I do my part. A few thousand rounds now with no issues at all.
