I just sold a j frame
as much as i liked it, the ammo cost was just too prohibitive on a college budget

so now im looking for a automatic 9mm replacement
and i need some ideas for a nice 9mm under or equal to $600
im leaning towards medium to small like no bigger than a Glock 19 and no smaller than a Kel Tec PF9
im getting a glock 19 for graduation so thats out

ok THR gimme your ideas

pikid,

i really like the 92fs series. alot. except for the external safety. i hate that. but if you like, prefer, or don't care about the safety, then the 92 fs in any flavor would do you well. i like the looks and feel of the 92. good gun imho. except for the safety. that is subjective though, and only my humble opinion.

also look at the CZ 75 B and its compact versions. last i priced any they were around your price point. i think. nice pistols.

It may be the red-headed step-child of the bunch, but look at the Ruger SR9c. My wife got hers for $340 VERY gently used (like new, really). Zero problems and the low price gives you more ammo to shoot! New, they run around $400-425 here.

Definitely go with the 9mm for ammo cost.

XD9 for polymer. (Glocks can be had cheaper though.)
Spartan or RIA for 1911.

Maybe just buy a Ruger 22/45 in case of another tutition increase. (hehehehe)

you mentioned you sold a J frame so I suppose you want something to fill that role again? What about a walther p99c? I've seen a couple for around 500 in 9mm.

I second the suggestion for the SR9c. I'm also a college student and I will be 21 in about 6 months. I've been looking around and reading about many 9mms and the SR9c is looking like the best bang for your buck if you want something to fill multiple roles reliably, including concealed carry. The SR9c also comes with a full size grip sleeve and full size magazine. Nearly all reviews I've read are extremely positive about the pistol. You can also buy a "drop-in" Ghost trigger connector for improved trigger feel. The SR9c's internals are very similar to a Glock, with the benefit of a manual safety.

Either a kahr pm9 or a glock 26. If you are getting a glock 19 eventually than the 26 will accept the glock 19's magazines. They will both accept the glock 17's 17 round magazine. The 26 and 19 are the same width, so some holsters will fit both of them. Something to think about. But, if you are looking to replace your j frame size, get a pm9.

Bersa Ultra Compact 9. Supposedly the best gun Bersa makes. Compact, uber-reliable, and can be had for < $400.

Also, Glock 26. But it's $150 more, less concealable, and fairly bland. BUT, it's reliable and will do what you want it to when you want to do it.
