Colt 1911 approx value wanted

I am trying to find out an estimated value for a Colt 1911. Manufacture date of 1913. Serial number 203xxx. Condition is very good.

Any and all help would be appreciated and thanks.

My Guess

Would place it over the $1200 mark. I have one I picked up in the late 60s for $40 at a pawn shop and I had it re-blued and replaced BBl. and bushing. Still I have been offered over $1000 many times.

If its been reblued, refinished, or has some replacement parts plan on it being a $500 shooter. If it does not have any replacement parts nore has it been reblued/refinished you mite have what i like to call a money maker. In all knowing that everything depends on what kind of condition it is in.


I too have myslef a U.S army issue 1911 made Colt manf in 1942. I picked it up before i really knew anything about 1911s, paying about $300 for a colt made 1911 i really dident care what it looked like I just wanted the darn thing. Later on I learned that it had been reblued in the 60s and the funky sites that were on there were some kind of bullseye sites.

A few months and chunks of infomation later that same pistol has the real sites back on it, its been re parked and I added a set of gunner grips and i'm in love.

Looks like you got your self a nice shooter.

Most of the markings on the left side have been worn down which leads me to believe that its been refinished therefore takeing away most of the collectors value.

And for some reason the SN just doesent look right to me.

Also i'm getting this naging feeling that the frame has been replaced. The slide has the markings of M1911 A1 U.S ARMY on the right side and the remnents of the patent markings on the left side which all leads us to believe that it was US property at one time BUT the frame is lacking the usual proof markings and U.S ARMY markings. And for some reason the SN just looks hand stamped to me.


But i could be wrong, I dont know every thing. Maybe good ole Fluff or Tuner can stop by shed some more/better light.

All in all ya got your self a good shooter.




EDIT: Yup i think i'm wrong. Tuner, Fluff, anybody smarter than me could ya shed some light on this one. I would really like to know.

Serial number has a section of tape over the last 3 numbers.

Front and rear sights are 1911 sights. Slide safety as well, I think. Small beavertail but big trigger.

No Idiot Mark on frame= refinish job.
