Hey guys, buddy of mine has a Colt .22 pistol that was his grandfathers. It is in VERY good condition and has "SERVICE MODEL" engraved on it as well as "ACE" inside a diamond engraved on it. It resembles a model 1911 but was not aware of one in a .22. Just wondering if there is a site we could enter the serial number to find the age of it and if you guys would have any idea of value. Seems like a very solid piece, thanks for your help.

There's a thread on it, as well as this site:

Apparently a Colt "ACE", from what it looks like it was made somewhere around the 40's.

There are some on gunbroker that are selling for pretty high, apparently serial numbers higher than yours are valued at over $1000.

A friend of mine has a Colt Targetsman from around the 50's and it shoots absolutely great. Seems like something to hang on to.

The original Service Model ACE serial numbers ran out at SM13803 shortly after WW II, they had sold the Army some for training.

They reintroduced the model in the late 1970s and made them only into the early 1980s.

Call Colt at 1-800-962-COLT (2658) and they will tell you the year made but with no other information unless you pay for a factory letter.
