..I am buying a mint 1963 Huntsman from a fella next week...can you lock the slide back when cleaning the gun?...also is disassembly required for routine cleaning or is it like the Government where stripping is only necessary after a few months of shooting(as opposed to barrel & chamber only, getting cleaned after every shooting session)...?

There is a slide lock, yes. Unless the gun is well and truly gummed up and sluggish, you should be able to clean the slide face area sufficiently well with a little solvent and a Q tip, and oil the slide rails. since there really is no need to clean the bore of a .22LR with modern ammo, that should just about hold you.

I have a 1940 Woodsman that is essentially the same gun. There is a procedure to remove the slide but I do it so rarely that I have to consult the book when I do it. It's "different".

If you get the Huntsman and need the takedown info PM me and I will dig it out for you. Alternatively some Woodsman fanatic may see this and post it without further ado.

Nice guns.

thanx..I found a site and printed a copy of the manual...I thought what you just mentioned was the correct case..clean the bore, chamber and visible portion with the slide back after shooting and strip the gun later when grime builds up enough..a gun shop owner told me about the Colt 45 to not disasemble more than necessary as parts get a little more wear and a little looser everytime the gun is taken apart and put back together...makes sense to me...I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy this gun even more than I'm anticipating right now...
