He takes issue with Rahm Emanuel's complaints that the feds are doing enough gun control prosecution to deal with Chicago's gang-related crime, and, instead, identifies other (more realistic, IMO) sources of the problem.

"He pointed to what he believes to be the caused of the gang problem in the city: "poverty, education, lack of job opportunities and sometimes failures in parenting.""

Fairly sane, IMO, especially given the issue and the fact that he's an appointee of the current president.

I think those things are true. But what is the solution? Get a job and make minimum wage when you can sit at home and collect welfare?

Cannot disagree with what he said. Lack of parenting based on a failed multi generation welfare dependency is a big part of it. More gun laws will not help any more than existing gun laws help. The gangs do not concern themselves with breaking laws. The gangs have no respect for human life. It means nothing to them. I have a lot of thoughts on what needs to be done but the powers that be do not want to hear the truth.

While it is highly commendable that he bothers to recognize the obvious, these root causes are all infinitely harder to tackle than throwing out gun laws to appease the rabble. Slight of hand starts to look awful tempting once a man realizes he can't work miracles.

I don't think I have ever read or heard it better stated.
