  • The full sized, it's small enough and I like the extra capacity and barrel length.

I own an M&P40, 9c, & 45c. The compact versions are easier to conceal in lighter clothes i.e. spring, summer, early fall, than the full size. If you are only buying one and it's for CCW, I'd choose the compact version. The compacts can use the FS mags for a reload or range use. The M&P's are great little pistols.

Do they have a safety on the trigger like the Glock?
There is a trigger safety, but the mechanism is a bit different from the Glock. In my estimation, the M&P has a more comfortable design.

I have both a FS and a Compact in .40 S&W. I think the Compact is considerably more "concealable."

The bottom half of the trigger has to be pulled back in order to fire. There is a little notch on it that meets the frame behind it, when the bottom part of the trigger is pulled this notch moves and the trigger can then be pulled all the way

OP: I think this is up to you. Do you want a bigger gun with more capacity that will be harder to hide, or a smaller one with less capacity that is eaiser to hide? You should probably try both out before you buy if you can. Myself, I went with the compact (M&P9C) and I can carry it in any clothing (hot or cold weather). I'm very happy with mine

I have the full size and tried carrying it...once. The grip is gigantic and sticks up like the Washington Monument. I now carry the S&W 1911PD and had the grip bob-tailed. The M&P is a great weapon and the compact is on my to buy list for sure.

Bingo. Exactly what I was going to say. As the owner of an M&P9, and just sold my M&P9c, I can say that if I were CCWing, I would really want the Compact. In fact when I carried them, the compact probably got carried about 3-4 times as often as the full sized.

And with the M&Ps you don't really have the drawbacks of typical comapct guns. The compact really shot as accurately and with only negligibly more recoil than the full size. When looking at my targets, there was no way to tell which had been shot with the full size and which with the compact. May as well get the compact since it is more versatile.

In fact the only reason I sold mine is because it was just a bit too thick for me to carry.

Yeah you definitely need to re-shape the trigger bar on a Glock, and put smooth triggers on the compact/subcompact models. Then they are just fine.

As far as the M&P goes, I can't see the significantly shorter grip of the compact models not being a great aid to concealment. Length of grip always got me more than anything else.

My EDC is a full size M&P40, but I shoot my M&P9c just about as well. The only reason I carry my full size is that it disappears when I carry it in a CCC Looper IWB holster. I just like the idea of more firepower if it is ever needed.

Also, if your holster doesn't have a body shield (like mine :fire:), the beavertail on the full-size will dig into your side. The compacts don't have the beavetail. I actually think the M&P .45 compact is the best of both worlds.
