Before anybody accuses me of blasphemy, let me tell you that this conversion is for our shooting friends in Europe. And, you better believe me, all the things we take easily for granted, for them are just faraway dreams.

Anyhow, my buddies from over there asked me for advice how to convert Ruger 44 or 45 New Model Blackhawk or Super Blackhawk? They prefer Ruger Revolvers because they are strong and sturdy and are available in stainless. On top of that, Rugers are safer because of transfer bar, even all six chambers could be loaded and there is loading gate so primers cannot fell out during recoil. Please be aware that over there C&B primers are sometime hard to get, and more expensive than shotgun ones.

If I remembered correctly, there are some smiths in Great Britain converting Ruger SA revolvers to C&B. Anybody has any lead? If so, how much they charge for such conversion? Any special reloading tool required with noted conversion?

BTW, I found this website http://westlakeengineering.com/4640/4694.html , but conversion is for conventional C&B revolvers. On top of that, Ruger Old Army is, unfortunately, out of production.

Many thanks on their behalf. Onty.

I think over here the conversions usually go from BP to smokeless not the other way. Most that I know that want to shoot BP in the modern BH, load it in the casing while reloading. :D

Yeah, I am aware of going from BP to smokeless, but if you have a limit of few handguns, or no cartridge loaded handgun at all, and you want badly Ruger BH, well, you start thinking about some other directions. BTW, even black powder could be hard to get, and smokeless one is rationalised in some countries, so you get few pounds per year, or something like that.

Tell them to immigrate to California. We need more shooters.

You would be surprised with situation over there and how much pressure and outright blackmail is on hunters and shooters to give up. So anyone who did not succumb to tyranny of new age Jacobins and their commissars is very precious one because they need some tough folks in order to fulfill the dream to create some sort of pan-European association equivalent to NRA. Hopefully, one day before is too late…

£450 for a 38 special conversion. I don't think I'll have to sleep on it to decide the issue. I'll buy another 38 first. What's that funny thing sticking out of the back of the grip? A wrist rest?

I believe that is the one of the British Home Office's requirements of a "long pistol". Required to make the weapon a "Section 1" (allowed) pistol vs. a "Section 5" (forbidden) pistol.

Perhaps one of our UK brethren could confirm that?
