Convince me not to get an SP-01 in .40.

Hey all,

I recently moved out to HI and found some interesting gun laws. Regardless, I've been contemplating a new handgun. I'm looking at something in .40. Due to the laws out here, magazines have to be 10 rounders or less.

I already have an FNP-45 waiting for some 10 round magazines, though those are 60 dollars a pop.

Anywho, I recently saw that the SP-01 ships with night sights and comes in .40 S&W. This was my main reason for not purchasing one a few months ago. Impact is selling them at 10% this month, in addition they ship with 2x10 round mags.

So what I'm getting at is that I'm looking for a full-size in 40 S&W around 600 that *ships with 10 round magazines,* has a light rail, and if possible ships with night sights.

Aside from the Sig P226, what else am I even looking at? Please, throw some thoughts my way as there are way too many choices out there (it ain't a bad thing!).

Oh, right - internal (safe action) pistols need not apply. I love the fact the SP-01 in 40 has a hammer and a firing pin safety, even if it comes at the loss of trigger pull and travel. DA/SA preferred.

I didn't know that CZ was offering the SP-01 in .40 yet.

Looks like Impact is out of stock.

They are even listing the Phantom.

Otherwise,
I've never heard a bad word about any SP-01, and know that CZs
in .40 are (reportedly) superbly accurate for the cartridge.

These are the 75B and newer P06 guns that people just rave about, and
the SP-01 should be even more more so.

Go for it! You would probably be the first THR member to get an SP01 in .40, and you really can't go wrong with CZ pistols. Well, some really dislike the CZ 100, but I don't know anything about them. I know my CZ pistols are my favorites, I bet the SP01 will become yours too if you buy it.

You might consider the CZ 40B as an option. You have the .40 S&W chambering, two 10-round magazines (provided somebody hasn't filched one), the 1911 profile with the CZ75B trigger mechanism, no accessory rail, but can get night-sights on it. If you absolutely must have the accessory rail, CZech out the CZ 40P.

I believe the newest FNP-40 can be had w/ night sights, 3x10 mags, and DA/SA w/ external safety.

I think I came to the epiphany that whatever the SP-01 does, the FNP-45 does the same if not better.

So I think I'll just stash the money for when the ACR actually comes out. I'm not holding my breath though.

My P-06 is .40, 10 round mag.
I avoid Impact guns. Poor customer service, and they don't usually carry the weapons on their web site.
Mine was purchased locally.

Convince you? Sounds like you're already convinced, especially with the discount. I would prefer the 9mm to save money on ammo cost, but that's just me.

I have an SP-01 (9mm) and I also have a CZ 75B SA in .40S&W as well as a Tactical Sport in .40S&W.

The .40S&W moving over 1000 fps in a CZ with a longer dustcover does feel much better, not as much snap as the extra weigh in the front end of the pistol helps keep it down.

I have both as well and just came back from the range after shooting them this evening (skipped out of work a little early... ;) ). Neither has failed and they’re a joy to use. I can highly recommend them.

Put it this way, I have a number of name brand guns, CZ is the only manufacturer that I have two. I liked my SP-01 so much I bought the Rami. (I like the decocker version in both.) I have the 9mm. but I don't doubt the .40 is as good. I just like cheaper ammo.

You think if I bought straight from Angus of Ghost Works he could fix me up with 2x10 (maybe 3x10) round magazines to go along with an SP-01 in 9mm with nightsights? Who knows... I'll shoot off an email for the heck of it.
