I hunt in thick woods and its all ways a pain in the butt worry about any debris getting inside my gun

I was browsing around cabela's and found these Birchwood Casey Gun "cots"
I basically looks like a condom that you slide over the end of your barrel, it says its not supposed to affect accuracy at all. wondering if anyone here has tried them. I wonder if it will fit over a frontsight

Thats a good idea too, however i don't know if a balloon would look good or work as good... its only $5 for 20 of them. thats enough for a while

small piece of electrical tape. Works great and its cheap. It will actually blow off way before the bullet gets to the end of the barrel. That's what I use to keep snow and mud out.

yea i've heard of electrical tape too but that leaves sticky glue and residue on the barrel.

These cots are only $5 and come with 20 of them better then tape in my opinion

You don't have to go to Cabela's to get them: You can find them at most drug or big grocery store (usually close to the rubber gloves--and the gloves are useful for field dressing). They are useful for protecting bandaged fingers from water, grease, dirt, and debris and for some other medically related things that I will not describe out of delicacy. Of course, from the drug store (or big grocery store) they may be white, blue, or purple--not camo.

and cherry flavored!

However, they are FAR more expensive than 4.99 for 20 of them. Give it a go! seems like a logical solution to a common problem to me!

yeah, but I think the idea of the finger cot is that you can shoot through them. I would not want to shoot through those end caps, plus they likely would not go over a barrel of irregular shape or a front sight.

Greg,
I saw them one day on the Birchwood site. I wondered the exact same thing on affecting accuracy.

finger cots (which is pretty much what they are) will not have an effect on accuracy at all. There just isn't enough there to disturb the flight of the bullet.

look at the "shoot-off" caps for nato o.d. flash suppressors. no accuracy issues. this due to the fact that gasses that bypass the bullet remove it long before the bullet gets there.

("long" in 2-3,000 fps world.)

Electrical tape. If any sticky residue is left behind, it can be easily wiped off. You do wipe your guns down after hunting don't you?

3M brand 33+ electrical tape is the bomb! $5.00 a roll, but should last you a long time and the cold really doesn't affect it as far as sticking.

Yes you will have some residue out in the heat of summer but you should always clean your rifles anyway and your prey won't fault you for looks.

I wouldn't worry about either tape or the cots. There's 20+ inches of air in the bore and when the gun is fired it all exits the muzzle in a big hurry. A cot or tape is going to be long gone before the bullet reaches the muzzle.
