I've crow hunted off and on for the past 10 years or so. Tough birds and very tough to fool.
If you can see crows when you're walking in, you're wasting your time. They'll sit out of range and warn the other crows that come to the call.
I use 3" 12 gauge with 5's. Going to try my 10 gauge if I go out this year.

Its been a while since I did some serious crow hunting. I've had luck with a mouth caller and lots of luck with the electronic callers. A crow is one of if not the smartest birds around. I can remember one time we put an owl decoy in a small tree and got in the edge of the woods with the tape player, playing a tape with an owl and crows fighting. Three of us ran out of shotgun shells that evening. The action was fast and furious. Some reason those crows (I think they were city crows 
) would come back again and again. We would shoot some down and for a while they would leave. We cut off the tape and changed locations on the ridge. When we started up the tape player again the crows flocked back in around us. I have not had that much action since then.

I used to use a cassette tape crow call in my jeep. I would turn it up and the crows would come. Most would come in close enough to shoot with a .410

I use a Johnny Stewart tape of a hawk & crows fighting, & it works real well as long as you stay concealed & don't wear bright colored clothing or hats.
I always have much better luck in the spring. I think there are a lot more young, dumb birds at this time. (not really sure if it's legal in the spring here in Indiana)
If you just want to shoot a LOT of crows, I've found a place down in the river bottoms where they roost, & 4 or 5 of my buddies will walk under the trees right at dusk & blast 5 or 6 with each shot----every night! Not sure how legal that is either. It is very effective!

Used to love to shoot crow. Used my uncle's ..220 Swift and a crow fighting tape on a JVC "boombox".

I've read that crows kill more ducks than duck hunters. Raid the nests and eat the eggs.
Besides, it's just plain fun.
Good luck with your hunt. Shoot a couple dozen for me. I hate crows. Every time I'd go into the forest this year, those d*** birds would start screaming and warning the whole bloody forest when they realized I was there. I don't know if deer pay any attention to them, but I'd have cheerfully shot every bloody one of them if I could.
When we were up in Huntsville for the cull hunt this month, I was grumbling about the crows which were greedily stealing my bait corn (I didn't put it out for THEM!!!!). I said something about wishing I could have shot the crows, and the ranger commented that each crow would have cost me $500 in fines
Later, Archerandshooter commented that he figured every other hunter there would have chipped in to pay my fines

A lot of people use the term "crows" for most black birds. The ones I really hate are Starlings. They are a feral species that was introduced to the US at the turn of the last Century. I will shoot 3-4 dozen per weekend when I am at my inlaws farm.
