I agree. I've feared this for some time now. Banning ammo or putting a tax on ammunition like some of the folks in California were pushing for. If or when the AW ban sunsets, this will probably be the antis' next move.

Overall, I'm glad the bill was shot down due to the amendments. I watched the entire thing unfold today, talk about nerve-racking. :uhoh:
 
I'm sure there will be quite a few candidates from other states who will be needing funds also! Everyone should help with contributions if they can. Also send a letter to the keenedys,fienstiens,schumers - let them know what you think and what you are going to do..... I guess i will have to keep my damn locks.:neener:
 
Something here doesn't make sense.

52 Senators voted to attach the AWB to 1805, and 53 voted for the McCain-Reed amendment.

Schumer has come out and said that this was the only opportunity to renew the AWB this year.

Why would Feinstein and Co. give up that opportunity? They had the votes to push it through.

The AWB is Feinsteins pet project, its everything to her. Why would she be willing to give up the one opportunity to pass it? Can't be because of S.1805. That bill is popular enough that it will be attached to something else this year, and will be passed. And then it will be signed.

So, what are the antis up to?

Oh, and I have called the traitor Gordon Smith's office (R-OR), and after having to sit on hold for 5 minutes, I gave the aide a good talking to, and asked her if they had been getting many calls like mine, and she said they have recieved a ton today, chastising the Senator.

Somewhat, as I understand it. If the Republican leadership had wanted to be hardnosed about it, (If they'd actually cared if they won, in other words.) they could have ruled the amendments non-germane. The Democrats would have squealed like stuck pigs, and they'd have had to have twisted some arms to make it stick, but they could have done it.

NRA encouraged the Senate to kill the bill.

Dear Senator:

The National Rifle Association opposes final passage of S. 1805 as amended by the Senate today.

While we will continue to work to save the U.S. firearms industry, we have said from the start that we would not allow this bill to become a vehicle for added restrictions on the law-abiding people of America. Given this fact, we oppose final passage of S. 1805 as amended and will fight this issue another day.

Our decision is in no way a reflection on the hard work and dedication of those Senators on both sides of the aisle-especially Sen. Larry Craig and most of his cosponsors-who stood up for the principle of individual responsibility embodied in S. 1805, and who opposed the anti-gun "poison pill" amendments aimed at destroying it. We sincerely appreciate their hard work and dedication.

However, having made our decision, this vote on final passage is a key vote for the NRA and will be used in our future evaluations and endorsements of candidates for the U.S. Senate.

Well, after the calls and letters, all I got out of this pathetic display of public lies from politicians was a 10 mile run in a little over 80 minutes today that helped to vent all the frustration that has built up since last week.

There is a line, and Chuck Schumer is dead set on crossing it. I am beginning to really become cynical in my assessment of the motivations of these people who are willing to outright lie over and over and over.

A better man than I said to fear any government that fears it's people.
 
Dorgan is up for reelection

This year. I will be doing everything in my power to see that his opponentgets elected.

ND is goofy. We are very conservative most of the time and usually elect Republican governors, but we send Democrat Senators and Representatives to DC. I guess the farmers think the Democrats are helping them with farm bills, but don't realize how much the Democrats are hurting other conservative issues they believe in.

I believe Wayne Stenjehm our Att General will be running against Dorgan, but he hasn't announced it yet.

For some reason my CCW ( NEW for OHIO!) class later this month has taken on more meaning.
 
ok, i just got home, and from a quick read, it seams that the bill was killed after the AWB was added
if this is so, its not the end of the world, most of the dumb lawsuits are thrown out anyways, and eventually we can get that bill passed.....but the good news is the AWB isnt even going over to the house right now
and i would trade 5 immunity bills to see the AWB die

I want to congratulate everyone.

There is no doubt in my mind that working together via THR and the internet made all the difference in the world.

I have no doubt that the NRA's original game plan was to accept whatever cancerous tumor were on the bill in the Senate and take the risk of cleaning them up in the House committee, and blame congress for whatever couldn't be cleaned up.

I also have no doubt that our pressure on them made them re-assess that game plan, when the realized that we would not accept that risk or outcome, and that we would hold them accountable.


Furthermore, I have no doubt that things didn't exactly go as planned on the floor of the senate, and we had some influence on that, working on our own grassroots.

When this whole thing started, the gun bigots were confident, and we shook the foundations of that confidence.

What was the difference? The boogeyman of the NRA? Well, we couldn't have done it without the NRA, but the NRA is a known quantity in the gun bigots calculations.

The unknown factor was us, the members of this forum, the 'Net, and Joe & Jane gunner who got off their duff and made the calls, wrote the letters, and sent in the faxes.

Today, we helped change the course of history, and we can cautiously sniff the air, and enjoy the respite between battles.

I count myself proud to be counted in your company, and in my dotage, I will remember my small role in this big war with pride.

Well done.
 
Well, put me in the camp with those who find all this odd!

Did the anti-Senators just trade killing the lawsuit bill for sunset of the AWB?:confused:

Or did they gamble on the pro-Senators passing the bill in the hopes of dealing with it in committee; where they could broker a deal to trade lawsuit for AWB renewal? (If so, they gambled wrong, as the 90-8 final vote shows:D ).

As for those saying that "Comeback" Kerry and John Edwards' votes show that they can never again say they are 2A supporters, sure they can. All along they have been equating the 2A with hunting, and calling for the AWB renewal and ending the "gun show loophole". I just find it quite telling that after missing all that time in the Senate, they rush back on Super Tuesday to vote for THIS bill.

And I thought the "official Democrat strategy" this year was to cool it on Gun Control (oops I mean Gun Safety :rolleyes: )?

Watch what they do, not what they say. However, in Kerry's and Edward's case they have always said that they were for the AWB and closing the GSL. Buttheads!
