The way the national elections appear to be going, and considering the distinct possibility of an import ban, I'd like to lay in a supply of 7.62 x 39 to feed my hungry SKS for the forseeable future. What's the best current source to order by the 1000, and what is the make?

I can get Wolf HP, which is the most accurate I've tried for my particular Norinco SKS, from J & G Sales for $190/1000.

Aside, the Wolf 154-gr SP is excellect hunting ammo...less than $5/20 from Midway...about a third of the cost of the Remington and Winchester 123-gr soft points! Got a 320-lb wild pig with one shot...it didn't move five steps.

Wideners has Barnaul SP and FMJ for 500/$100. Golden Tiger has had a price increase.

Hey TooTaxed....I also like AIM, but since they no longer have Golden Tiger, i got my last case from Copes Distributing ( they also have a great rep ). I got a 1000 rd. case for around $190 delivered. ( i just noticed someone else has already recommended Copes).
While the Barnaul and Wolf stuff is fine ammo, keep in mind that lots of AK's have problems reliably feeding HP and SP rounds, i'd stick with FMJ. And i see you're from Columbus,me too, I live about 15 minutes north of town,up in Fortson. I've been in Roatan,Honduras for a month and a half, flying home tomorrow, and as soon as possible driving out to the best gunstore in our area, BarrowAutomotive in Butler,Ga. to pick up my new .308 Tikka T3 stainless !!! If you're not familiar with Barrow, they're a great operation. Me and several friends have been happy customers of theirs for years. They blow away that guy at Shooters !!!!:D

i like those 700rnd tins of hot shot for $129.99

price is good and the tin is great. dont have to bother with buying ammo cans, desicant, etc. plus they stack like a dream.

Ammoman

Try http://ammoman.com. They've got Wolf JHP for $199 delivered. Other places sell it for that price, but then you've got $20-$30 extra for shipping.

I've ordered two cases of 1000 (7.62x39 and 7.62x51) from them in the past few months and have no reservation about recommending them to anyone. I'll order from them again, for sure.

ETA: Also Golden Tiger FMJ for the same price.

curious... do you have an academy in your area? they are typically about 4.75 per box. Otherwise i like http://ammunitiontogo.com/
for net sales.

over on the RFC site, i organized a couple of mass buys, and also a deal for all RFC members, to get special pricing on eley 17m2 ammo. a lot of stuff he carries is not even listed on his site, so don't be scared to call or email him, and ask what he is carrying at the time, especially when it comes to milsurp. John and his boys are great to deal with, so maybe some dudes here could organize a deal on certain ammo's for THR members, or a couple of group buys.

The century deal does not seem to work. Adding to the cart brings up an error.

Barnaul seems to be best I have shot in my Vepr. I just picked up a case of soft point.

I get mine from my workbench, I suggest you get started reloading which will provide not only the lowest cost, but the highest quality and unsurpassed selection.

SnappingTwig, where do you get your .310 bullets for the 7.62 x 39? I reload also, but have found the boxer-primed cases and bullets are scarce...

Check the first link. EVERY other post is a repeat of what's in the first link.... :uhoh:

Too Taxed, I shoot a Mini 30, 189 series with a .308 bore, so I use .308 bullets.

Try some .308 bullets, you may find them to be accurate in yours, heck, every gun is a kingdom unto itself. If they work, you're ahead.

As to brass, everyone has it. I bought mine from Dillon.

Ammoman seems like a pretty good site. I might buy some 7.62 from them.

If they do ever place an import ban on guns, gun owners will raise hell. I would make absolutely no sense to do so, but then again most gun laws don't make sense from the beginning.
