ok i really want a cz 452 for a paper puncher, tin can killer, and squirrel gun

whats the main differences?

i know the varmint has heavy barrel

is one better than the other?

At least with the 22lr CZs - the American barreled action is secured to the stock with two action bolts or screws. The Varmint , Special/Trainer and Lux have one action screw and barrel screw.

Both should shoot the same. One will just have a little heavier barrel.

Are you going to use a scope or open sights?

I have a trainer with open sights that I shoot more than my scoped cz. I just like the gun and the sights. Seems to make me take better shots.

Whatever cz you choose should be a tackdriver....all mine are:)

i was gonna do a scope viking

my eyes suck so regular open sights are a pain unless i can get peep sights or apeture sights i prefer a scope not alot just liek a 1.5 or a 2x

Neither of those come with iron sights.
The varmint would sit better on a rest for paper punching. The American would be lighter to carry in the field for plinking and hunting. Both would be accurate if you take the time to fine it's favorite ammo. You would want more magnification for paper punching. Maybe 14x or more for target work and 4x to 9x for hunting.

i dont like large scopes

i use a 1.5x for deer with my .30-30 i have always found that the higher the magnification the better chances of missing

u think i could get some peeps put on it?

If most of your shooting comes from a bench, go with the varmit.
If bench and carry, go with the american.

As far as a scope, get whatever you like. Mine sports a 3x9 that works fine for me.

I remember reading somewhere on THR about peep sights for a cz. Maybe from Eric Brooks. Try cz452 dot com

If your going to be doing hunting I say go with the American.

For all you CZ guys in here. what is the difference between the 452 and 453?
There is always the lux if you want sights.

if paper punching , then the heavier bbl will be better, once it heats up. but it will still be very close in accuracy; if you are going to hump around in the woods, the lighter bbl is better, but if you can handle the weight, get the heavier bbl, you won't have any regrets later, that you didn't.

set trigger

The 453 has the set trigger - the 452 does not. Other than that, they're the same. Except the price. Altho, the 453 sometimes comes with a better quality wood.

The 452 American also has a nicely blued finish where the Varmint is a matte finish. That may make difference on whether your scope choice is gloss or matte.

For general shooting, I'd slap a 4x scope on it. For many years, a bright 4x with a 1" diameter tube was all the scope I wanted on a 22 rifle. The 4x gave me the speed I wanted to find a target at a modest price with enough magnification to keep things interesting. Worked great for rabbit hunting even on running shots. I didn't punch paper other than to sight in.

As I grow older, I find that I like a bit more magnification as I'm more interested in punching paper than plinking. Check out the Weaver 2.5-7x rimfire scope. Nice flexible scope at a moderate price! I love this scope.

I have the CZ 452 varmint model. It is still light enough to carry in the woods for squirrel hunting or small game. None of the CZ's are what I would call light. Have not mounted a scope on the CZ yet, but on this one I'm thinking something like the Mueller APV. I have the Weaver on a Thompson Center Lynx (heavy barrel with composite stock). The Lynx was the first stainless steel rifle that I have owned other than a black powder rifle.

You will be happy with either CZ model.

I have both a varmint and an American. Aside from the barrel, the American is more nicely finished. Varmint on top.

Slight drift, if I may ... are the CZ rimfires w iron sights (Trainer, Lux) drilled and tapped or dovetailed for scope use?

Thanks

I used to own one of each. I much prefer the American if you plan on doing anything other than propping it up on a bench. I did not think anything was gained from the heavier barrel.

Since it doesn't have iron sights you might look into the shorter version as well. I had my American cut down to 16.5" and really like it (this was before they offered a short version.)

Thanks for the comment ... I've read that link over and there are inconsistencies on it. Most models note .4mm dovetail under the barrel specs, so I assume they're all scope adaptable. However the Silhouette model specifically lists "iron sights, adjustable" and they don't show on the pic nor on any sale listings on GB or AA.
