CZ 453 vs Weatherby Mark 22

Hi Guys I have been doing research as to what 22 to buy, and from reading all the different forums the cz 452 453 seems the go, but usually from a price point, but here is the thing, just to confuse me more, here in Australia they have just reduced the cost of the Weatherby mark 22 to the same cost as a cz 453, given the same price point would you go for the 453 or mark 22?

I think the Weatherby is night and day more beautiful, if it is the bolt action made by Anschutz. I think there is a Japanese semi-auto with same name, but haven't seen one.

I imagine the Weatherby would be more limited production, because of price, but you are saying they are the same price?

I thought the Weatberby is like double a 453 here in US.

I'd get the bolt action Weatherby and never look back. I have a 452 Varmint and the Weatherby Mark XXII bolt. Just remembered semi-autos are a bit of a problem in the land down under. You have some nasty snakes there.

i have both the CZ 452 and the Anschutz 1700 and looked seriously at both your choces before making mine.

the Weatherby bolt action uses the Anschutz 164 action (which would be the "club action verses the 54 "match" action) and i looked very hard at it before choosing the CZ. i really like the "California style" stock as opposed to the more classic CZ...i just didn't think it was worth twice the money.

for the same price, even if it were just close, i'd get the Weatherby

now then, I love cz anything, and have tons of their rifles and pistols , at all times. And the set trigger on them is fabulous.
HOWEVER..... if you have never shot an Annie, and the Wetherby has an Annie action 54 or 64, and you have never pulled the trigger on an Annie 22...
when you do, you will then know what GOD and JESUS uses , when they shoot against each other, in rimfire benchrest shooting with a bolt action. there just is no other trigger like them, they are so buttery good...

Thanks for that, it is the bolt action version, and yes they have pretty much reduced the price of the weatherby by a third and it is pretty much the same cost as the top of the range cz 453, the 452 is still $200 cheaper, looks like a Weatherby for me, jsut not that keen on the high gloss, but I am sure I will live with that.

After researching the very same thing for about a year or so, I just ordered the CZ 452FS (Mannlicher stock), and with the money I saved, bought a Leupold MKI 2-7X28 scope (I wanted something small and subtle) from Optics Planet (check the Net for discount coupons). For 15 bucks, I ordered the Eric Brooks trigger kit.

Think about it.

The Weatherby is drop-dead gorgeous, and I've seen the groups the things shoot.

Nothing against CZ, but for the same price, I'd take the Weatherby/Anschutz rifle.

looks like a Weatherby for me, jsut not that keen on the high gloss, but I am sure I will live with that

the Weatherby "California Style" is a bit of an aquired taste. besides the "high gloss" finish, there's the "high" monte carlo cheekpiece, angled contrast foreend tip and the pronouced pistol grip cap. it is a very distinctive stock.

i really wish they had gone with the Anschutz 54 action

No relevance to .22LR, though. I just like the retro pretty look, in a world full of more and more black plastic.

The Weatherby is a fine rifle but I have seen the groups the CZ's shoot also ...........my CZ and the fact of the matter is they are just as good!

i had the questionable pleasure of once shooting a Mark V in 300 Weatherby

the only thing that overcame my resulting twitch was picking up an original Weatherby Mark XXII...mine was a tube fed made in Japan

It's not a good gun for shooting at the range.

For field shooting, the stock design keeps it from slamming your face.

I should clarify: you won't want to shoot any other regular stock design, IF you are shooting a hard-kicking caliber.

I wasn't trying to say you wouldn't want to shoot anything but a hard kicker. The comb, angled so it recoils away from your face, is very effective for Roy Weatherby's jackhammers.
