I grabbed a CZ 527 Varminter in .223 awhile back. I was wondering if any of you guys knew what type of ammo to run through it. I bought it used and I don't know what rate of twist they are offhand and I can't find it online either. Thanks!

I believe the twist is rather slow like 1 in 12. This would limit you to lighter bullet weights. I was going to buy the FS version of that rifle, but the twist will not work for me.

CZ's website says 1:12. (http://czusa.com/product_detail.php?id=47)

You can also mark a cleaning rod (one that has a rotating handle works best) and run a tight patch down the bore. Fairly simple matter to measure how far the rod moves forward before making one rotation. That'll give you a pretty good sense of the twist rate.

The twist rate on the 527 with laminate stock is 1 in 12. The Kevlar stocked version is 1 in 9.

I've tried some 62 grainers that my Savage eats right up and gets almost touching groups out of. I can't get under 1-1/2" or so groups out of the CZ with them though.

I'll try to pick up some 45 grain rounds when I'm out next and see how they do. It has the laminate stock so I guess it must be a 1:12. It is a very beautiful rifle and hopefully I can find the "sweet spot" ammo to run through it.

Thanks again, Eric

you would be good to do your own test, with the tape/cleaing rod test. if not that, get a box of45 grns, 55 grns, 62 grns, and 69 grns. if the 45and 55 are pretty close, the 62 grns open a little, and the 69ers cant hit the side of a barn, you have a 1/12.

if it is a 1/12 , then 45's white box winchesters will go into the same hole.
lemme show you some 100 yd targets, with the ammo weight listed next to them. you can see how they start to open up at 62 grains, but still under 1. inch at 100 yds.
