they both look like good gun and the stoeger cougar is a little cheaper both have decockers "i think" i just want to know what one well last longer and is built better??

I have the cougar, great gun no dissapointments here. If you can get it for 300 or 350 it's a crazy sweet deal.

If you're going to carry i'd say get neither and get the CZ P-07 duty. I'm wishing the P-07 was out when I was looking into buying, I would've got that instead of the cougar.

The CZ is one of the most natural pointing firearms I have ever owned, and I regret to this day for trading it off. The P01 is one of my favorite guns to shoot.

My P01 and it's bigger bore brother the P06 are among the best pistols I've ever fired.

I had to vote for the CZ. But I admit, I do not own a Cougar. The CZ is by far the most natural pointing pistol I have handled. They shoot great and are very accurate. I would like to get my hands on the new P-07, but that is going to have to wait.

I do hear that the Cougars are nice pistols and they may fit your hand better. I am just very fond of the CZ.

As for the decocker, the CZ can be had with a decocker in the CZ-75BD model.

Having handled the Cougar and being less than impressed.
I cast my vote for the best CZ currently made.

The P-01 is hard to beat.

I own both, and as was quoted... "Not even close!"
The CZ P-01 is one of the finest pistols out there and can still be had at a 'reasonable' price. The Cougar is a very well made, almost a full-size service pistol, that's a work-horse of a gun... Very accurate, will shoot anything and a great value/buy for UNDER $400.
Don't know how many guns you own... I have a bunch of CZs, SIGs, etc. etc... The P-01 is at the TOP of my list... with my Sig-P229 a very close second! If you don't own a P-01, get one!... Or at least hold-one/shoot-one and see what you're missing!... The Cougar can come later down the line.

Wow, I voted for the CZ but I didn't expect to see the results quite so one-sided. Still, I'd like to have a Cougar one day.

If the Cougar is only a little cheaper, then you are either not getting a good deal on it, or you are getting an exceptional deal on the CZ.

The Cougar should be in the $350 ballpark.

The P-01 is in the $550 ballpark.

Money an issue: Cougar
Rolling in the Dough: P-01

If the Cougar is an "F" model, it has a safety which will also decock the hammer. You will have to remember/train to flip the safety off. Model "G" is decocker only like the CZ.

There are opinions on the "F" model safety. But something you should find out which it is, and what you like. Mentioned to help make up your mind.

Personally I think if you do your part and take care of them, this is a wash, they are both well built and will last you a lifetime.

That being said, I think the CZ will most likely be the better option for several reasons. It will have better/more third-party support.

I'd have a P-01 in my collection today if it weren't for the fact that it was sooo tight that my wife could not operate it at all. It is still on my list, and I will very likely get one in the future, but as of today, I can't get something that she can't operate. Oh well, it works out anyways because I really wanted the 75 Compact instead of the P-01. Also helped reinforce my case for a revolver for HD.
