CZ P-01 (Decocker Question)

I have finally narrowed down my CCW Choices to the CZ P-01, or the S&W M&P. I've had a CZ-75B for almost 3 years now, so I am quite used to them. However, the only problem that I may have is the decocker. Since the CZ-75B has a manual safety, I am used to resting the thumb on my right hand on the safety when actually firing. I have included an example below.



My question is, with the decocker on the P-01, would the possibility of decocking the pistol under stress be a concern? I don't know how much pressure it takes to decock one, as my gunshop does not have one in stock. Is this a valid concern, or am I just overreacting?

I know I can get a CZ-75 Compact so I could have a manual safety, but I would like to shave some weight with an alloy frame.

Any ideas?

No it isn't a valid concern.
Yes you are overreacting.
It takes a LOT of pressure to get the thing to decock. When I first got mine I thought there was something wrong with it because I couldn't get it to decock.

Just tried mine. Resting CAN'T decock it. You must push down with pressure to decock it.

No.

Even if you were to actually decock the hammer, it wouldn't be the end of the world, as you could merely pull the (now-DA) trigger again and get it to fire. IMO, it's a non-issue, since there is no change in readiness with the pistol, no safety question and no risk to you. Besides the fact that it is fairly hard to decock.

P-01, here. I love it. Very effective firearm. Solid decocker, with no possibility that I'll accidentally decock it when not desiring to do so.

If it was a problem, why not just move your thumb down on the grip panel where the thumb usually is?

Alright, this is good news. I'm still sitting on the fence between the CZ or the S&W, but I am more familiar with the CZ. I'm still not sure, but I am thinking it may just be another CZ (my wife has a Semicompact) to the fold.

I prefer the PCR model, it's a tad thinner than the PO1, but both conceal well.

And both are very accurate

CZ PO1, wonderful pistol, so is the PCR. Change grip to thumb off, and don't worry. BTW, nice grips - Hakans?

You really have to push down on the decocker, I mean really hard, not likely you would do it by accident, even under combat conditions.

The only reason I don't want to change my grip, is that I am so used to shooting the modern isoceles on my CZ-75, it just feels weird without resting my finger on a safety lever if its there. Plus I suffer from little girl hands, so I don't have much room on autos to switch my grip. I'm sure training will get over it, just a hard habit to break.

armoredman: Yep, Personalized Hakan grips. First thing I replaced since I had the cheesy thumbrest grips that came on my "Military" model CZ-75Bs.

Not only don't I think you can accidentally decock the P-01, but I don't see how or why you would choose to rest your thumb on the decocker--even with a "high thumbs" grip. I'm holding my P-01 right now in my right hand with my right thumb parallel to the slide and pointing roughly toward the target. When doing so my thumb is against (not atop) the decocking lever. I would have to crane my thumb unnaturally backward and up to mount it on top of the decocker. I can't imagine anyone shooting this way because the side of the thumb would rub against the slide, and vice versa. My thumb rests neatly against the frame between the top of the grip and the bottom of the decocker. The distal portion of my thumb is in contact with the slide release lever.

To decock the P-01 you must press down and forward, with a little force.
